Weathers kinda nice - time to ride!

Cracking couple of hours out for a spin on Thursday. Felt like the first proper warm sunny day in ages. Had loads of shite jobs planned around the house/garden but I decided they could wait till the afternoon. Loads of other bikes out too, It was great.

Only saw about 378 other GS’s in the three hours I was out!

Not going to retire Steve, but have. Don’t know where I got the hours to work nowadays. Nordkapp is part of a tour group, as it was a condition imposed if Iwanted to go off for a month on the month. Not complying, as long as I know where the accommodation is I can ride how I want to get there each day.

It’s a trip I’ve long wanted to do, and only now have the option to do it.
Well that didn’t make much sense did it. Obviously I meant “if I wanted to go off for a month on my bike”

It was rather nice up there on Thursday wasn’t it. The Strathdon road was fun as usual as well. Looking forward to having bike run in…….

Took a relatively dry ride south towards Deeside this morning. Roads were mainly dry. Most notable was the number of MC’s out & about. Must be a holiday or something.

A good number of miles today. Not hot, like wot yesterday was, nor sunny either, so perfect riding weather really.

Headed up the road to the Cairngorm ski centre . . .

120524-2.jpg

Then on towards Kingussie and Ruthven barracks . . .
120524-3.jpg

Up to Laggan next and the little road that used to take you all the way to Fort Augustus on this road/track . . .
120524-4.jpg

Plenty of locals just lying about, waiting for some tourist to appear so’s they could do . . . well, nothing really

As I headed back down the glen I was met with a whole crowd of Welsh fans who had heard that there was a Welshman on the road . . .

Nice gentle ride west & north yesterday, taking in the scenery and soaking up the silence when stopped.
Watching a cuckoo get chased was kinda special as well

First service for the new Himmie so down to Dumfries and back. If there's a better motorcycle road than the 702 south of Elvanfoot, Id like to ride it!IMG_20240520_081353_054.jpg

F8GS got a shakedown today after its post winter deep clean & service . . .

Took a look at some classic over in Inverness before the start of the Clubs annual traffic jam around the loch . . .

A nice view from a Triton, down the line of some of the bikes

This was a very well done homage to 3 of the colour schemes that covered the venerable RD400

This wasn’t in the ride line up but in the main car park. Very, very nicely restored little machine that just made me smile as I walked around it

There had to be one that wet itself . . . well, to be fair on the Velocette, there was more than one machine that was leaving its mark on the car parks tarmac

Headed onto the smaller roads after leaving Inverness. Been down to this church once before and kept meaning to pop back. Fantastic walk along the Spey which is right next to the church.

A track on the hill above the church . . .

A bell tower is located on the hill overlooking the church – a good walk into the trees from the lane to actually get to the tower, hence a picture of the sign only

And finally, a nice pond shot . . .

Correction - the river mentioned in above post is the Findhorn and not the Spey

My lad gets out even less than me, but today we made it out together.
A super “figure 8” run to Oban via Lochgilphead then back via Glen Coe and Loch Earn. Almost 300 miles.

Was still cool out. Only saw 16 degrees once. Quite a few tourist bikes on the move.

Most of the roads were quite quiet so we really enjoyed the ride on some of our best roads.

And, I had a shot on the S1000RR. It’s my lad’s third one, but I haven’t ridden it for a while.

Such an alien riding position compared with my RS. Cramped up like a wee jockey. I certainly couldn’t ride all day on one. The ability to Stop and Go is astounding. So I enjoyed playing on it for 50 miles from Glen Coe to Loch Earn. Was pleasantly surprised that there was no weight on my wrists except when heading down hill. A low screen lets the breeze hit my torso to lift the weight off.

Another day, another ride . . . this time too Royal Deeside . . .

This furry antlered group were just off the road leading up to the Lecht. 1st time I've seen so many reds on that part of the hill!
130624-1.jpg

130624-2.jpg

Then it was up & over the Lecht and onto Deeside. 1st time up Glen Muick. Nice & quiet, with very nice views once out of the trees . . .

2024 Longest Day Bimble

Took a slow ride west on the Longest Day of 2024, riding a few roads I’d not traversed for some years. Not done a Longest Day ride for several years – I think 2019 was my last one!
A loverly hill en-route, Bein Eighe from the Torridon to Kinlochewe road

Gairloch was my chosen destination of the evening, at the nicely quiet Sands Campsite.
Here we see the canvas cave at early o’clock on Saturday morning having been woken by an unusual dawn chorus of a Corn Crake and a Cuckoo

No surprise that the traffic was virtually non-existent at this hour of the morning.
Two pictures from the Dundonnell to Braemore junction road in the early morning light.

After waiting for the fuel station to open at Ullapool, I headed north to Laxford Bridge then down the 37 mile single track road to Lairg. Here is a favourite view of mine. When the sunshine hits the scree on the western slope, the whole hill just shines . . . but not too much on Saturday.

Falls of Shin café is now open after 3 years of being closed. Limited menu, but a bacon roll was all that this rider needed.

Cracking ride on great roads, with epic scenery and in good weather – the way every ride should be (y)
