Just got back from week in northern Spain. Me, my son Martin and a few friends from Phase One Endurance. Bikes were all taken down in van and we flew down and collected hire car and drove to villa.
This was the view from the villa the following morning. Villa is hundreds of years old, it is like a cave built into side of hill.
The collection of bikes ranged from my 17 year-old son's CRF230 through XR250, KTM 425, Husquarvna 250 to my KTM 640. I thought my bike was a light-weight pogo compared to my GS but compared to everyone else's bikes it was a big heavy road-based bike.
Stunning scenery straight from the off. We were based in little Spanish town of Ainsa in the Pyrenees. Hundreds of miles of trails in every direction.
Climbed several mountains and views just got better.
Weather was never less than perfect with temps around 20 to 24c.
Long climb to top of this mountain just to find this chap. The expression "Happy as a pig in sh!t" was never more appropriate.
My son had never ridden off-road before but after just one day had mastered his CRF230. Little git!
This was my feeble effort over same jump.
Great site near abandoned church with great reflections.
Not bad from cheap little camera.
Top of another mountain looking back down at lake. It was amazing how we were able to climb and gain such height in such short time.
We decided bikes weren't dirty enough so rode down to side of river and managed to get completely stuck.
Think it might need a clean. This was AFTER we had got the worst off and ridden 5 miles to nearest garage with jet washer.
Jet washers are wonderful inventions.
One of the best weeks of the year. Fantastic scenery, great routes, good company, excellent accommodation, very good food and good value. Weather was perfect every day.
Even a grumpy old git like me could find absolutely nothing whatsoever to complain about at all!
Might go for an lighter enduro bike next year such as CRF250 or 450 but KTM coped well. GS would have made 80% of trails but would have been hard work and probably not as much fun. Next year might ride down on GS to do easy 4x4 type trails and take enduro bike in van.
Definitely recommend place to anyone.
