Location
Conwy Valley, north Wales. Best place in the world
Planning a weekend away with a mate on the bikes next April.

We're coming up north and across the border, staying in or around Dumfries on the Friday night and then open to suggestions for the Saturday and Sunday, aiming to be home in north Wales at about 4ish.

What do you reckon? :beerjug:

North and West and you wont go wrong.

Roads

Thanks, that'll help.:thumb

What about good biking roads? :D:cool:

I live 13 miles from Dumfries and i am sure you will enjoy the roads here, get ready to adjust your suspension as the roads are bumpy. Great coastal roads and some twistys also up near Thornhill n Moffat there are good runs to be had and food to be eaten.

Sounds brilliant :D Can you recommend a place to stay?

It is on the Solway Costal Route which is a great biking road. If leaving from Dumfries, take A711 to Dalbeattie then A710 to Kippford, New Abbey. Stops along the way - Kippford, Rockcliffe, Southerness, Carsethorn, New Abbey. The A711 eventually loops back to Dumfries.

Other roads - A713 from Castle Douglas, along the Side of Loch Ken. At top of loch take a left to New Galloway then head south down the A762. About 3 miles down the road there is the 'Raiders Road' - a forest drive of about 3-4 miles that takes you to the A712. Take a left to Newton Stewart. This takes you through the Galloway Forest Park. At Newton Stewart join the A75 (costal road) to Castle Douglas. There are further deviations if you want to miss out the A75. Note that the Raiders Road is closed part of the year - if so take the A712 from New Galloway to Newton Stewart and enjoy the road past Clatteringshaws Loch.

Its a great and often missed part of Scotland - have a great time

must agree with gordon, the clonyard's good, and the queens way to clatteringshaw's a must. you could also try the isle of whithorn south of newton stewart, great roads all round with a mile long dirt track to the cafe at the end. have fun:thumb

Thanks for the advice, can't wait to get away! :beerjug:

Enjoy the Clonyard. I will be a bit further north that you this weekend - meeting up in Moffat with some of the Wildcat Morocco folks that I toured with last October. Couple of runs planned through Dumfries and Galloway and Borders.

Have a great trip
