I see that the weight saving for the 1300 over the 1250 is quoted as a major push by BMW for ongoing sales.
However, when you add a centre stand & other desirable / essential bits the actual weight saving is negligible.
That's probably why there is a smaller petrol tank as a larger one would have made the thing heavier than before.

Marketing, a bit like the how small my lunch packet of crinkle crisps has become.

Dishonest really. The weight saving. :hammer

The main weight saving is the engine, gearbox and shaft which is around 6.5 kg, then a couple of kg for the battery. The rest is all academic because it depends on spec and added equipment. I suspect all of our 1300’s will get heavier as we ditch the Lithium battery.
A litre of fuel weighs 0.80kg, so hardly worth mentioning.

I have the forged wheels , less unsprung weight and less weight on the front, you can tell … swapped the spokes and found it was heavier to steer . I’m happy … but I do own one so perhaps bias .

Boxerthrust is gonna love you.

Who bloody cares?
Or do you you buy a bike coz it’s “x” grams lighter than its nearest rival?
I’m sure that most wouldn’t notice the difference if their bike was a few pounds heavier, or lighter.

If you like the bike, and can afford it, buy it!
If you don’t like the bike, or cannot afford it, accept that this is how it is, and move on.

I don’t know how much any of my bikes weigh, or what any of the bike I had before weighed….and I don’t care.

it doesn't feel heavy and that's all that matters. only done 180 miles on mine so far, early days but I just think it an absolutely superb bike and addictively quick. Trip computer said I was averaging around 55 mpg at the weekend on A roads without having to try, cant see why a 5 percent smaller tank will ever be a problem for me.

Why do you say we’re going to ditch the battery? JJH

Imminent worldwide recall as they’re all catching fire .

But apart from that , and the start button and the hold on all luggage due faults , it’s going swimmingly

Hopefully I’m completely wrong but Lithium car/bike/leisure batteries don’t have a particularly good reliability, long term performance reputation and I suspect the cost to renew may result in many going down the lead/acid route.

I don't think the OP is commenting on the bike, whether he will or not buy one, He is, as I've read it, stating the dishonesty by BMW and gullibility of potential buyers ? Nothing to do with the weight at all?

I have a lithium battery for my golf trolly, It's outlasted all of the lead acid ones I had before it. The longest a LA one lasted was 3 years before it failed to do a full round. The lithium one has lasted at least twice that and is still easily managing 18 holes

'I see that the weight saving for the 1300 over the 1250 is quoted as a major push by BMW for ongoing sales.'

why is it a major push?

Managed to dig this out of the Bennetts website:
But enough of the more, more, more… time for a bit of less. The kerb weight of the R 1300 GS is a claimed 237kg – that’s 12kg lighter than the R 1250 GS. Of that, 6.5kg comes from the powertrain, 2.5kg comes from a new lithium-ion starter battery and, if we’re being picky, a further 750g can be put down to carrying a litre less fuel. That suggests all the chassis changes contribute a reduction in the ballpark of around 2kg.

I've not been able to get mine above 48mpg so far even with a few bits of motorway thrown in. Was getting a solid 55 on my 1250GSA.

I've noted a difference in weight between the 1250 and 1300 but I went from a GSA so I'm bound to. Even adding the crash bars and scaffolding for the panniers it still feels lighter.

Engine definitely feels punchier and it's way more prone to wheelieing. I've had several moments already where I didn't think I was that "on it" and the front has gone light and hovered slightly so I'll have to watch out for that when the missus is on the back :ROFLMAO:

Mine is a used triple black registered in october and has done about 3500 miles.

I did put the super unleaded in it but its long term was showing over 55mpg anyway. Might be because your engine is still tight, or mine has been thrashed from day 1!

Same smaller tank stunt on the 900 v 850
