Back in the early 80's, my parents were involved in a serious near fatal car accident, both were seriously injured and neither were ever right or able to work again. The other side despite a year or so of a dirty tricks campaign by the insurance company, eventually accepted full responsibility and paid out £80K.
Around the same time there was a defamation case going through the high court for a father and son ( quite wealthy ) who had been accused of shoplifting by a security gaurd in penney's. They were awarded £350K. Irish justice at its best.

Pure mad, that is why they did away with jurys in injury claims.
