After a month left idle, this morning I pulled all the crap off my 1200 and gave it a glimse of the yellow ball in the sky.
Started with no trouble & predictably the fuel warning light started winking at me. 15 miles left in the range & 14 miles to the petrol station ... took a litre just in case! ;)

On arrival at the petrol station I discovered that my filler cap was seized solid. 10 minutes of pushing, pulling & testing the torsional stresses of a BMW key proved fruitless. I eventually seeked the shelter of the shop where the tiniest tin of WD40 was handed over by the swarthy looking chap with a toothy grin for Kings ransom of £7.99

5 mins later just as I was giving up hope it suddenly popped open to my relief. Filled to the brim I re-entered the shop where the same chap pointed at my "unstoppable" beast and asked why petrol was pissing out of the breather pipe?

I said "it's a BMW ... they're shite"

Might just be a good idea to open your filler prior to departure if your bike has been stood a while! :thumby:

Common failure.

Plus the fuel strip lies all the time. :D

It was full already as you'd had the sense to top it off before bedtime hence the overflow:blast

If you'd had the diesel version it wouldn't have seized.

I dunno. Some people:roll eyes:

Fluff.

It's the only time I have ever been at a petrol station, with money & a spare litre, yet still technically run out of fuel.

My Twin cam went in for a new strip when it failed under warranty. The mechanics were a bit surprised to find an old style float in there ... that had fallen apart! :blast

Has my old tank bag fallen to bits yet? :thumby:
