Anywhere will be wonderful, stick to B and C roads and you won't go wrong.

Agree with not staying in Lourdes but it's defo worth a visit if you like religious kitch and proof of how corrupt the Catholic Church is :D

Don't stay in Irun, both me and my mate were hustled and had our phones nicked with bills to Algeria when we got home. In hindsight we should have stayed in St Jean Pied de Port as the furthest point west.

There's a great cafe in Vielha on the Sort end of town on the left does some monster burgers.

Cow shit road is good; Puigcerda - Ribes de Freser - Ripoll.

Nice place to stay but would pre book as you get a lot of pilgrims looking for rooms later in the day. Can recommend Logis Hotel Ramuntcho, great food.

St Jean Pied-de-Port is back from the coast a bit. Did you mean St Jean de Luz? We stayed there a few year ago - a lovely little town.

Thank you

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I now have a good idea where to go and can start planning my 2013 trip,,, its always good to have something to look forward to.

Cheers

David

No, we ate in St Jean Pied de Port and decided to press on for the coast. As Irun was a right shithole and we got robbed that decision wasn't the best one :blast

The mountains are petering out by there anyway so hooking a left to Pamplona and picking up the N240 back east would have made a better route.

Was in St Jean Pied-de-Port about 6 weeks ago. If you don't mind hoards of pilgrims standing in the middle of the road then fine, but I found it hell and left smartish. Quite a good book of trips all along the Pyrenees on both sides, is Motorcycle Journeys through Western Europe by Toby Ballentine. ( Whitehorse press/Amazon).

Make an exception for the N260 from Sort - Adrall which brings you up to the edge of Andorra.

There are a few Pyrenees routes in the Motorcyle Journeys book.

Definitely! Andorra is a must.
Went there a couple of times & always willing to come back.
And you can get one day to relax in Caldea SPA. :)

If you're doing the N260, then I'd recommend the Hotel Charle, just north of Jaca on the N330/E7 as a good place to get your head down. :thumb2

Off road parking for bikes, reasonable, & good local food - stopped there last week

And the N260 IS good up to & past Andorra - I generally give Andorra a miss, as it's an over rated shithole.

+++++++ 1 for the Sort road :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2
