Rode my '04 GS all winter and it never missed a beat.

Yesterday on the M40 in torrential rain it died.
Green Flag got me the last few miles to work and I've left the bike there.
Returning tomorrow and thought I'd ask for a few pointers.

The bike turns over but won't fire up.
The upper spark plug on each side sparks as the Green Flag guy had a quick look at them.

I presume it is something to with water getting in somewhere but could really do with some advice or a checklist of what to start with and order for when I return tomorrow.

Cheers,

Stewart

look in the fuel pump well behind the left side plastic cover

Under the wee dome thing with vents

Is it full of water??

Dry it out then unscrew the wee alloy thing with the wires plugged in and check is there water in that wee well?

If there is I would say that the fuel pump relay has been shorted and you'll need a new one

When you rebuild use a new seal gasket and coat the plugs and the seal with Vaseline and then use an old rubber car mat and cut a cover for the plastic top to stop water falling in

I can never remember whether the blue or the white wire is positive in the wee well below the relay (You can make a temp lead to test it or a get you home lead) cos I've sealed all the plugs and gaskets and coated the relay in waxoyl and made covers for any 1200's that come thru and don't tend to get this failure any more

I think you will find BLUE is the posotive wire:thumb

Did you make a rain cover for the vent doofer??

Did you do the job or BMW If they did it remove the bits and vaseline everything and fit a rain cover you will have many many more happy miles

Forgot to say cheers.
It was indeed a shorted relay.
