Am a GS newbie. Took delivery of a 2020 Rallye TE last Friday. I test rode one a couple of weeks earlier and hated it? But still bought one! Worked on the theory that so many owners can’t be wrong. First run out, 40 mile from home. Stopped for fuel. Bike wouldn’t start? WHY………….Keys still in the pants I was wearing at home when I started the bike!
I could of cried. On a brighter note BMW assist are brilliant.

Funny but honest. I hope things improve.

It took me a couple of thousand miles to like the GS.

That was good, honesty gets you everywhere!

It takes time, beauty in the eye of beholder with everything though, I still enjoy riding my 1150 and a 1250 I tried

I think it is very brave to admit you ride commando.

I was recommended by a friend to just go and buy a GS, no point in test riding something you won’t like, but will learn to appreciate. I ignored him and didn’t buy first GS until the water cooled had been properly beta tested.

I get about a metre from the bike and a warning comes up saying key is out of range and not possible to restart...

Good story though ;)

Never would have happened before keyless

easy done.. ive set off once but saw the light saying its out of range so turned back... Mind they do work well instead of getting all your gear on then spending 10 mins trying to get to the pocket your keys are in :blast

I always thought the ignition was a good place to keep your keys..

You need to carry your key to remove the sat nav, gain access to luggage and lift the seat so exactly what is the benefit of keyless ?

The cost of an ignition switch?

I generally quite like it when I'm commuting because I never have to take it out of my pocket, same reason I like having the keyless go on my cars. If I'm touring it's really only at the start and finish that I need to take the key out, whereas with a normal key it would be at every stop and every time you need to fuel up. It's a little thing and a lot of people don't like it but I appreciate being able to just hop on the bike and go with one less thing to faff with.

A Kawasaki GTR1400 I owned featured a KIPASS fob system

I left the bikes fob which was attached to my top box keys in my top box. Whilst travelling home from meeting some pals at cafe in Clapham said keys and fob fell out of my top box, as it was a very sunny day I simply didn't see the 'out of range' message on the bikes instrument panel until I got home

I travelled back and walked some of the return route in a vain attempt to find said keys, I didn't find them

A replacement fob and pairing to the bike cost around £200 .....lesson learned !

I just bought a car with keyless. Drives me up the wall, not having anywhere to put the key. The last keyless car I had (a BMW 520d) at least had a handy receptacle that was designed to hold the key.

I like keyless on the car, I clip the office keys to the car keys and bung them all in the drink holder.

I do the same with the bike keys and keep them in my jacket. Very handy for commuting.

How about your pocket??
