It isn't in the manual so as a new LC owner I am terribly confused - no use asking one of the old crowd what's best cos they have never had to use it?

Why? Its a new bike, if it needs more coolant it should go back to the dealer to find out why. In two years time you might need an answer if you want to change the coolant yourself. And "coolant" because it does more than preventing freezing.

I use one of these in the garage to stop my bike freezing when its cold

If its good enough for an 1150, I'm sure it'll be OK for one of your new fangled bikes.

Exactly what I was going to say.

If it needs coolant there is something wrong!

Note the engine is liquid cooled not water cooled, as such the fluid inside is likely to be a lovely shade of green or blue, and most likely a mixture of glycol which doesn't need anti freeze as it is a type of anti freeze it self and has a freezing point of roughly -36 deg dependent on the % mix.

And I am luddite, but obviously have learnt more about you're bike than you have. :aidan

Off course you can look here if you don't believe me:-

Think you meant to say Glycol ?

Also think you might have meant to say "does not need anti freeze"

Think you might also find that the entire thread is a piss take as I suspect Engineer knows about all there is to know about engine coolants and could probably whip you up a batch given access to the contents of a typical kitchen.

In an emergency can I use MucOff as coolant?

Why? What are the main constituents off MucOff - can you point me to an ingredients list so that I can check whether or not you are being serious?
