......for on the head light crash bars on my GS100PD. I have two on each side that slide up and down into various places on the bars, but what are they for ? :nenau

They're for sliding up and down. They come into their own when owners have nothing else to do. :thumb2

It's called a rubber mounting (part number 46632315138) so clearly it's made of rubber and is meant to be mounting or mounted.

I think it's supposed to stop the tank bashing the bullbar thingy when you're refitting it but don't really know :nenau

I've had a thought!!.. Wonder if they are for strapping those saddle bag things to? Do BMW do soft front panniers maybe? The sort John Wayne had maybe.

At present i am doing a photographic study on just where riders wear their rubbers and on what part of the bars. My early findings appear to show that they are more often than not worn near the fuel tank on the vertical, although i am also seeing wild and erratic placement as well.
In conclusion i am begining to think they are useless bits of rubber tube.

To truly know what the rubber parts are you must 'think like the rubber part'

Take a deep breath & become the part. Only then will you receive the gift of enlightment

proff is having his afternoon nap, so the world will have to wait !!

When will the people know if he holds the key to the secret ?

I have been told by an ex factory worker in Germany that the explanation for the "rubber collar" secret died, when the one worker who knew what they were for died suddenly, way back in 1994.
Seems even BMW ain't got a fookin clue either.

Sorry guys but as they are only fitted to para's, Proff will know F....all about them:D
I think they are there to protect the (plastic) tank in the event of an off and the bars bending.... I know this is correct cos when I tried sliding the right hand side rocker cover down the road, there was definately no damage to the recess in the front of the tank.. wish I had put a rubber bung on the top though.:blast

Don't you lot know nuffin!

Have you not heard of friction damage??

If the PD gets dropped and the bull bar gets bent into a position where it is in contact with the tank, then the vibration whilst travelling will cause the bar and the tank to rubb together. The tank will loose. Henct the rubber parts. :rob

Simples :blast

Sorry to spoil the party :hide

Val.
