Hello- very untechnical of me not to know- but- what are those flaps people put on their hand gaurds (some say touratech), like wind deflectors? Are they any good? What do they do? Where can I buy some? Are they easily fitted?...all/any advice appreciated... Thank you

like wind deflectors

Thats what they are:thumb2. Lots of people find the BMW standard hand guards don't work as well as they could and add these.

(some say touratech

They are available from touratech:augie and Wunderlich I think they are approx £20? but I maybe wrong

Stumpy

No no no, you are missing the point; it doesn't matter if they are any good! BMW employed top engineers to make the GS1200 as light as possible to allow us to bolt as much old tosh on as possible to get the weight back up.

As a bonus the Touratech "flappy things" can be bought from (funnily enough) Touratech, which means although your wallet becomes instantly lighter, your bike won't get any heavier for quite a while.

Fitted a pair of Wunderlich ones to mine, they keep rain off my gloves at motorway speeds and reduce wind chill.:thumb

Dead easy to fit too.

Touratech hand guard spoilers. Yep, you do have to drill a couple of holes unfortunately. Get it right too, or you'll end up with 3 holes on one of your hand guards (ask me how I know) :blast

I'm actually not sure if I've noticed any difference with them, maybe they keep my hands a bit warmer, but I'm not taking them off now or I'll end up with handguards like swiss cheese.

Don't worry Jonny, I'm a Harwell trained engineer with 30 years of experience at breaking things off my bikes.. shite happens

Absolutly agree. On my '05 GS I had the standard protectors which "yes" they do help in keeping your hands warmer and dryer.

With all the "talk" about the TT extensions,I just had to buy an try. Bought and installed, found "No real difference". Other than the upward wind draft felt behind the protector on your fingers,I felt these extensions just created "more" of an upward draft. I taped little strings on the levers and at speed you can see the air lift behind the protectors, thus the draft.

So with my new GSAdv I chose to not install the extensions and just ride with the oem stock height.

But if you like "Cool" looking *farkles*, then by all means buy and install them!

Buy them from Nippy Normans.........less hassle than dealing with Touratech and from memory by the time you factor in postage cheaper :thumb2

Regards Bob

You do have to drill the handguards but you will look like a Dakar legend every time you park up :augie
