What does the SOS & Teleservices function do, is it worth £305

I had a 40mph RTA on my old GS with Biketrac. Biketrac never contacted the wife or emergency services.

With BMW SOS, there will be a more robust setup I reckon with lots of legal liabilities at risk if life/death is an issue on an SOS system that didn’t work.

What, like the life or death issues of killing a journalist.... with no recourse.... or collapsing forks, collapsing wheels, siezing driveshafts all injuring it's customers.....

BMW don't give a shit about your safety, you're havin a laugh mate :D

... oh, forgot to mention the new leaking brake calipers they've modelled into the new bikes... and ESA Suspension that fails after 14000 miles of normal use, or the TFT Screen telling you to stop riding your bike immediately, for no reason....

Haha, couldn't make this shit up :D

No one is forcing you to buy their product.

The SOS button is linked to the dealer, as it’s a money making scheme. As soon as you drop your bike, the dealer will call up to sell you replacement parts, then when you come to sell the bike, they’ll knock a load of money off, as it’s been damaged. :D

None of that matters, the bike is still awesome, dude. :thumb

Now that would not surprise me one bit.

Dropped bike register

Given its a "free for life" service you would have thought there would be a limit set on the amount of times you could set the device off each year i.e. at BMW School they were forever going off when trainees dropped the bikes.

Well like most on here, I've had a fair few bikes over my years..... and not one of them has been a disappointment.

Why keep flocking back to the same thing, when so many other bikes and manufacturers to try out.....

Yamaha MT10SP
Honda Goldwing
Kawasaki H2SX SE +
Kawasaki ZZR1400 Performance Sport
Honda Monkey Bike
Triumph Thruxton R
KTM 350 EXC
Ducati Multistrada
KTM Superduke R
Triumph Daytona 765R

The list of really exciting and entertaining bikes is endless.....

Waste of money - a gimmick

Couple of years ago, I arrived at my mates villa in St. Tropez. The twisty mountain road just before you drop down is great, He told me two weeks prior a young lad had left the road on his bike. He survived the crash, but due to a broken leg and hip, he died of dehydration a few days later as No one knew what had happened or where he was. This is what the SOS is for.
Not a gimmick. Just a comment from someone that probably doesn't have it, but would like it. As is the TFT etc.

That's why I bought the Garmin Inreach Explorer Plus SOS SAR and it works off the Iridium Satellite network.

People on here suggested I was overthinking it and crapped on the idea. But when out of phone signal range, you really are on your own.

Does the BMW SOS system use the Iridium Satellite network, or does it rely on a phone signal? If the latter, then just be aware it may still not work depending where you are.

It works on the Emergency network, where usually there is some kind of shared network, but you are right, If there is no signal at all, then you're stuffed, however, they will have your last location and speed and direction. I've just returned from 4250 mile ride around Europe, Not once did i receive the dreaded "No network" message on the TFT and we really did go to some far out remote places. Thats only for the UK.

Ok well that's a bit reassuring I suppose.

It’s stories like this that make the SOS button a very good idea, so for anyone riding on their own in remote places, it’s a great idea. My bike doesn’t have it, so as I rode on my own in the middle of nowhere a lot of the time, I hope I don’t end up dying in a bush somewhere one day! :comfort :P

For once I can say: Well said. I totally agree with Nutty. :aidan

Total waste of good money AFAIC. Just another thing to go wrong, and i refused a new bike sitting in the showroom because it has this fitted. Had to wait three weeks for another bike without it arrived, but hey ho, i can fill the tank a fair few times with £305.:D:D

They could have disabled it, there is a charge of around £80 for the mothership to turn the SOS function off.
