He's worse than Alfred Hithcock. He keeps us on the edge of our seats for a couple of months then he plays the finishing music and rolls the credits before the ending. Now we can only guess that he's run off with a fairy princess or summat! :) :aidan

Hi folks,
Going to seem a bit looney now. Well I'm going back to Mongolia for a week, going to hire a 4x4 and then come back to BC and finish the trip. The reason is purely unfinished business. As I'm riding around British Colombia, all i can think of is Mongolia.

Fully understand your feelings here's Oisin, I was lucky and managed to squeeze every last drop out of Mongolia within the month long visa....but over a year later and I still think of Mongolia every day.

So it could be for you too, that 'business' there is never quite finished.:blast

Thanks ... you've both started me off again now :)

Sue and myself were on the bikes in Mongolia for 40 days and Mongolia squeezed every last drop out of us :thumb

In the name of finishing what I started, I'm going to blog out the remainder of this puppy to New york. I'll be posting quite regularly till I get back up to date.

I continued my journey up the Cassiar highway, and hopefully the pictures above will convey what a lovely part of the world this is. The roads are full of bikers, mainly Harley riders.

But the bigger trend up in these parts is cyclists. There are hundreds on the road. Every time I stop I meet them and they are all undertaking massive journeys, 2 couples to Argentina, 2 Transcanada, 1 going Anchorage to New York. Its hard to feel like a tough biker when you see guys cycling your route with a big smile on their face. Can you imagine what your ass would look like if you cycled from Alaska to Argentina? I don't think you'd need a nut cracker come Halloween thats for sure.

Along the way I met a couple who had just got back from fishing and the girl had caught a Salmon so big she could hardly lift it.

As I'm riding along my head is all over the place. In a perverse way I miss the hardship from Mongolia and Russia. North America is so structured and organised with everything working just the way it should that it can all start to feel repetitive and predictable.

I give myself a good kick in the hole every time I catch myself thinking it and say something suitably chastising like "Shut your pie hole ya dopey bollix, theres guys all over the world who'd love to be doing what your at". I tell myself its all part of adjusting to being back in the west.

I reckon that Tim horton is responsible for everyones love handles in Canada. The donuts are filled with crystal meth I'm sure, completely addictive. And its impossible to leave the place full. Ten minutes down the road you get the cravings for a honey creuller...or an apple fritter.

Other than that...lovely roads...lovely countryside...nice people....I'm on easy street.

Take care
Oisin

You're back ... this place can be just as addicittive as the donuts filled with crystal meth. ;)

Watching and waiting for the next installment! Welcome back oisin.

I caught a lot of rain on the way up to Watson lake but still managed to pick up a few nice pictures along the way. It was a pain to be riding through spectacular countryside when all you could see was the rain on your visor and the road ahead, but on average I've been very lucky with the weather on this trip so I wasn't in a position to complain.

On the way I stopped in a small town not long after Smithers at an intersection as you head north. The place was called Rob's cafe I think and I was served by a girl who could put Viagra out of business. She asked me what I would like to order.... I'm pretty sure the expression on my face looked the same as if she'd said "Can I please sit on your face?"

As the day wore on and I stopped about every hour or so for a coffee to get out of the rain I met a whole host of unusual characters.

The first chap I met came out of a shop drinking a cup of coffee when he was holding in a very deformed hand. I mean really deformed. He only had two large fingers and that was it. He swapped the coffee from the right hand(deformed one) to the left and held it out for me to shake it.

The fingers were way longer than you'd expect and almost wrapped around my hand, and the hand was wet.....it was soooo gross but I checked back any exclamations or weird looks. I'm sure this guy actually enjoyed weirding people out with it, he was smiling just a bit too much.

Next thing a guy showed up riding a Harley, he was after coming up from Washington state but was born in Michigan. He was great fun and was talking about bears and of course he came over and shook our hands, mine first, and johnny two fingers next.

Well, he wasn't as good as holding onto his emotions as I was and no sooner had he the fingers in his hand that he said.... "Y'know something... I think i'm gonna puke!, that hand is some vile shit!"

In fairness the guy burst out laughing too and we all shared in the laugh, the guy went onto explain he was born like that but it didn't hold him back. He said he used to shake hands with the left hand but now enjoyed peoples reactions to it in a weird sort of way.

Neither of us booked up the courage to ask...."So what is the wet feeling?" but when he was gone we both scuppered off and washed our hands like they'd just been raped.

Later on I met Jurgens in Watson lake, a German guy off touring the world. He some great stories about Africa and we had a couple of beers and a burger in the local restaurant.

Watson lake has really only two reasons to stay there, one is that its a long way to the next towns so you kind of have to stay there and the other reason to stop is the sign forest, which seems to have doubled in size in the last couple of years. In 1992 it had 10,000 signs, there are at least ten times that now. Its very unusual and if your coming this way well worth stopping for. Other than that, Watson lake is an overpriced shithole.

Take care
Oisin

I knew it

Like having good sex,you gotta come back for more:aidan:hug

You made my day as I sit here on niteshift surfing the net on a shithole of a jack up rig out in the sea 20 miles of Ipswich.

Bandwidth is limited though so cant see your pics:tears

You have introduced me and my mates to a new catch phrase;
