Whilst connected to this web site Saturday morning I had worked my way through all the preceding pages and clicked onto the last page, when I did this I got the no more posts message pop up. This is not unusual and all I normally do is to click on Get Latest Posts button and it all comes back but this time it didn’t. When I clicked on the button it came back with the ‘This web page is unavailable’. I tried other web sites but got the same message. I restarted the lap top but got the page unavailable message again when I started up the internet. I then turned off the wireless router left it a while and tried again no change. I left the router disconnected all day and retried in the evening but still no change. When I click on the wireless icon I get everything is ok and that the strength is excellent. I have disabled the connection and reconnected it still the same. I have asked the connection to repair itself and have opened the report page and everything has a green heading apart from the DNS and HTTP parts they have a red heading and error messages. Is this something to do with the computer, the router or the ISP?

I would rather not contact my ISP, as I don’t want to draw attention to myself due to a clerical error at time of signing up. Could they have shut me down at the drop of the hat if I’d been rumbled?

All ideas gratefully received.

Your computer connecting to your router is OK which is why it says OK. Sounds to me like your connection to your ISP is down, for whatever reason.

I think a call has to be made.... Just my tuppence worth, out here it happens a few times a week, but just for an hour or so, (wireless connection from the mountain top to the house, then an internal router for the house)

Well I dont know what's changed but I've just fired it up and the poxy thing is working ok now.

Bloody computers.....They don't do themselves any favours do they.

i'm no i.t. wizz but i had the same thing a while back and was told that there are only so many isp addresses per exchange and if they are all taken at the time you log on you will get no connection.

The solution was to leave everything switched on once i'd made a connection and therefore never loose it................shame for those who were waiting though

I've moved now so thankfully never have this problem anymore :)

If ping works but DNS doesn't it seems likely your ISP is having fun with their DNS servers. Might be worth adding another DNS server entry for one that is generally accessible from anywhere, eg 208.67.222.222 at open.dns
