What have you done to your LC today

When I test rode on of the first 1200 rally’s that had a single seat like that on it I found it really comfy.

Yes, it felt ok albeit slightly higher and more of a forward lean than the standard one.

Luckily I was able get get my grubby little hands on a set of Sargent seats from on here for touring.

I see you have the Gilles HP footrests, keep an eye on them as I had two sets and the both cracked around the mounting bolts, quite a common fault.

Today I repaired the stripped threaded hole that is supposed to take the bottom bolt that holds on the rear plastic mudguard thingy.
I removed the thingy to aid removal of the rear wheel. When I took out the bottom bolt it would not separate from the guard as the thread seem to look like had come out with the thread from the FD housing. Upon closer inspection it was the remains of a Helicoil.
As I have owned the bike from new, 2017, 30,000mls, and thought I knew all of it's history, I am annoyed that someone has stripped a thread then made a poor job off fixing it and kept quiet about it, Helicoils should not come, someone had over tightened the bolt into the Helicoil and stripped that out!
It can only be the servicing dealer or the tyre fitter (ride in/out) and when it was done?, who knows.
I was left with an over sized hole in the FD housing.
My fix was to take a 12mm bolt, drill down it's length and tap it out to 6mm, cut off an appropriate length to make a reducing insert. Then I drilled out the old bolt hole in the FD and tapped it out to 12mm and put in the insert with threadlock. All seems to be holding together nicely.
Sealey (and other manufacturers probably) sell these threaded inserts that can be easier and cheaper than heli-coil kits, I've used them on occasion at work for repairing stripped threads (if there is enough wall thickness to drill a slightly larger diameter hole)... just use red stud-lock to glue in the threaded insert and then blue nut-lock (if required) on the bolt, so on disassembly the bolt comes out before the insert.

The bike has the BMW Billet pack fitted, although the footrests probably look similar to Gilles.

Thanks for the information but hopefully these will hold together ok.:thumb2

They are made by Gilles for BMW, trust me keep an eye on them. There is a thread on here all about the failure of them, the later version is better than the first version but I wouldn’t trust them off road.

Take off the restrictive Altrider guards and replace them with the cheaper/better BMW Origional ones and you won't need the fan :thumb

Clever and useful to know

Fitted the side stand enlarger, the Bumot toolbox, the Bumot top box, the mudsling front and rear, Touratech mirrors.

Thank fully my sat nav came back to life when connected.

Time permitting tomorrow after my first on road ride the bash plate is removed for AcF50 and alt rider bash plate gets fitted.

Shaping up nicely.

Went for a cheeky 50 min ride yesterday dinnertime. First ride of the year with a brand spanking new scorpion 2 on the rear.
Loved every minute - fuelling spot on with the axfied.

I do sometimes thinking of changing but my Sep 2016 EU4 is sublime. Suspension handling is spot on with enough grunt when needed.
Loads of potholes thought:blast

I did have a look at various options, unfortunately as the 6mm hole had been stripped, helicoiled then stripped again, I needed a 6mmx12mm insert.
My main concern is that having used mild steel for the repair is corrosion, as I am always squirting various oil based products on the bike I hope to keep on top of it.

Well I’ve had a play and made a bracket for my wireless heater controller.
Done it out of a bit of stainless after making a pattern out of a bit of cardboard

Then sprayed it black. Quite pleased with it
