Apart from the cost what is the difference. My GS ADV will be due its annual service in May and was wondering.

hi there.

in a 6000 mile service, the oil and filter are changed, the valves are checked and adjusted if required, and other minor bits looked over.

in an anual however, the gearbox and diff oil are changed (if it's two years), and the brake fluid is also changed (including wheel circuit if you have ABS), as is clutch fluid. The oil and filter are also changed during an annual, but the valves are not checked/adjusted.

hope this helps

Service costs seem to be about £140 for 6k service and £250 for the annual service.

Macp,

Does the cost quoted for the annual include the 6k service too?

The honest answer is I dont know. I was quoted £250 by Williams of Manchester for the annual service and noticed another thread on here quoting BMW prices for 6k service as £140.

Macp,

I've posted this link before, but take a look sometime. Its the official BMW Motorrad site. You can print off the service schedules for the bikes and compare at your leisure the difference between the annual and the 6k service. Some dealers insist that you need both done at the same time. You can see from the schedule that some of the annual service items (clutch fluid change, change gearbox and final drive oils) only need doing every 2 years. If you are having the 6k service done at the same time, the only additional jobs needed on a year old bike are having the battery checked and the brakes bled.

that sounds reasonable, a mate of mine has been ranting about the service cost of his Ducati 749s, minor service £450 (6k miles), major £650 :D :D

Just been quoted £99+VAT + parts for a 24000 and annual service at RGM.

Had a 6K/annual service carried out on mine last year at Woolaston (Northants).
They charged me about £175 (about £50 more than the standard 6K service) and said that amongst other things, they replace the lower brake fluid (from the pump to the calipers) whereas the upper fluid doesn't need to be changed so soon.

That saved 50 pence worth of brake fluid -
