What is Mod. 91?

In the repair manual for the R80GS Mod. 91 gets mentioned a few times in relation to torque values (eg the torque setting for the engine mounting pin is different post Mod.91).

Does anyone know what Mod.91 is and will my R80GS basic be pre or post mod?

My best guess it’s for bikes manufactured for 1991. Model year dates usually start August or September of the year before ie 8/90 on. It is a guess though.

Seems strange, as a '90 & '91 are ostensibly the same bike - you don't mention the degree of variation. Was it when they stopped using cad plated fixings maybe?

Research suggests that, whilst the nm torque figures quoted in most manuals are correct, BMW are known to have made errors in translating that to lb-ft occasionally.
