What is the best helmet to get ????

I am totally puzzled by people that wear ear plugs, I spent 25 years in the mining industry which is as noisy as you could get and have never and would never ear earplugs on a bike...............you can't hear what's going on with them..............my hearing is still fine...............perhaps I am lucky............oh and a Schuberth C2 which I like very much!

That's a bit like say you are puzzled by people who give up smoking because of the health risks. Yes there are 90 year olds who smoke 40 a day.

Let's hope your luck continues.... Bit like russian roulette, when your luck runs out its too late to do much about it.

Personally I'll stick with the ear plugs.

Saturday was very hot. I didn't fancy riding around in my bmw system 5 full face lid.

So i used the bmw open face "jet" conversion kit for the first time this year. Converts the full face into an open face - Top bit of kit.

I don't think they make one for the system 6 ?. Oh well, i suppose that's the price of progress

Thanks everyone who comment so far :thumb:thumb , I have now narrowed it down to two .

these are ?:

Schuberth S2 or the C3 :D:D

the only thing i am unsure of is , do i want a flip front or a full face ..:confused::confused:

hope to try them on both soon , and i definatly think its time for earplugs.

while i am on the subject of Schuberths , does anyone rate the bluetooth option that yo can get with these ?? or is the Autocom 4 the way forward..?

thanks in advance..

Fuck me :blast

You deserve everything you get :thumb2

Why on earth do you bother?

How much of your life have you wasted asking your mum which pants you should wear, asking your friends what music is best, canvassing total strangers as to what food is nicest to eat??

Don't waste your time replying, I won't be reading.

Forget the Schus and buy and Arai :)

That is if you have the same shape head as me - I can't get on well with anything else. I'd been riding bikes for around 36 years (I started very young) and whilst I've tried war plugs a few times but like others, I can't get on with them - just buy a quieter bike or a better screen unless you like wearing them - what decibels are you exposing your ears to and for how long at a time is the most important issue from what I understand.

Try on lots of helmet and see which ones fit best - regardless of whether you like the look or not, you'll soon get a feel for which brands suit your head.

For example Shark helmet hurt my head and always left a mark on my forehead - thankfully I was only borrowing - as I had worn an Arai all the way through to the polystyrene foam in a bad crash - it still managed to save me though, despite the car drivers attempt to kill me off by doing a U-turn in the middle of the road whilst indicating to pull in to the left!

Not even considered one of the most important choices when purchasing, namely what colour? From reading this thread it sounds seems like Purple would suit ye :thumb

Be careful with the Sharp ratings. I am not saying don't use them but do other research as well. There is an increasing number of professional bodies saying that their tests are flawed and inaccurate. Have a Google and you will see what I mean.

Does anyone know if the BMW System 6 is imminently going to be replaced? System 7?

Hello, I got a Schuberth S2 when they came out this year, buying without reviews and to my relief found it amazing.

I ride a naked bike so aerodynamics is the first thing I looked for. The helmet is great when looking back and general riding at speed as it cuts through the air great and is extremely quiet.
Lovely wide visor and has built in fighter pilot style sunglasses which is great!

There is a bluetooth conversion out for it too but its expensive at £279.

The helmet was around £450 though:(

just thought i would add to this. Although the helmet may be one of the quietest, i still wear earplugs and you would be a damn fool not to use them Tony.
I have horrible tinnitus from work, you do not want this, listen to what people are saying.

+ 1

I bought a flip front schberth c3 ? A few years back. Flogged it on eBay within a week. Just as noisy as anything else. Uncomfortable. Flip down dark visor vibrated in my peripheral view.

Bought an aria Rx7. Didn't look back.

If I were to wantva flip I'd go for a shoei. I use one for work. V v good.

I have just bought a HJC R-PHA MAX flip up helmet with built in sun visor from Hein Gericke at the closing down sale for a bargain £279.00 Its my first flip up.

The quality is excellent, the visor complete with Pinlock fits and operates really well, very well made. even has a real metal catch. It has one top vent that works well as the bike screen would deflect the wind away from any chin vents ,

The flip down sun visor is great, and I find in warm weather at lower speeds I ride with the sun visor and chin bar down and the main visor up, Its cooler and suprisingly very quiet,

The top vent makes some noise over 70mph on my GS1200 when open but is noticably quieter when closed.

The flip up chin bar works well but to date have not used it, I guess I have not got used to the fact it is there.

No fogin issues but its hardly the right time of year to coment on that.

Its light as well and has removable linings for cleaning, The HJC have come a long way with the quality of this helmet so might be worth a look as a few years ago I would not have considered them

I tried same HJC on Saturday at Helemt City and the Chin bar came away from the helmet - it appeared to be held onto the pivot by just 2 small lugs which are part of the pivot / hinge. I and the staff at the shop were amazed - especially as this lid get's a rave review in respected Motorrad magazine test. Make sure you're happy with it and this just for info.

....I ended up buying Shoei Neotec.

I've been Arai devotee for many years and decided to try everything new offerred in the shop having given brief of quiet touring / day to day lid required.

This was prompted by realisation that my new Arai Quantum Dawn whilst beautiful is too tight in a medium. My Arai Chaser of some years is perfectin a medium and my choice for trackdays. So always try before you buy, obvious but I'm a sucker for brand and what pleases the eye !

Bottom line best lid is what fits you and I tried Schuberth C3 v Neotec numerous times and Shoei just edged it on fit - for me.

I discounted my temptation to get another Arai Tour X4 , had the previous model and buffeting of the peak drove me mad - soon realised that I had bought this on form over function , my GS unlikely to tackle more than a bit of gravel if that !

I had my Arai custom fitted - check pads etc. changed and it is the most comfortable hat I have tried in years. I do like a few Shoei hats for fit too though.

It's a good job there are lots of different brands out there, as I had a lot of trouble finding a helmet that fitted right when I bought my first ever bike - many moons ago - so I am sure there is a good fit out there for everyone.

I bought a Schuberth C3 a month ago. To be honest I'm dissapointed in it. There's no cutout for glasses, which makes it uncomfortable after a few hours, but worse is the bloody visor won't stay up above 60mph.

Was riding in France the other week and it was so hot with the visor down. Can't even just click it open one notch as the visor itself is thinner than my old Shoei XR1000 and wobbles at speed, distorting the view.

It is slightly quieter than my old helmet though, and where I always wore ear plugs before now I sometimes don't bother unless it's a motorway drag. I also like the new ratchet mechanism too.

When I come to buy a new one I'll probably go back to Shoei though.
