Just taken a load of the front bits off my 1200 adventure to be able to route the GPS cables nicely. It's quite addictive pulling it apart! I was left wondering what this little antenna-like thing is?
Having thought about it, my only guess is that it is for the tyre-pressure sensor? I assume the sensors transmit a signal, but had thought that the distances involved on a bike from wheel to instruments was small enough not to need a 'receiver'. If it is for tyre pressure then I expect to find another one near the rear wheel, but it's 6:45 and I've bleary-eyed so don't want to go looking yet.
