Just completed a service on the 1250, with brake fluid change and valve check.

I am curious what the part shown as 8 in the diagram and labeled as 'Twist Protection' is for.

Having also done a valve job on the 1250 I’d also like to know what the function of this part is.

  • Works in a Pair: The right cylinder head requires this part (11128393674), while its corresponding mirror component on the left cylinder head is part number 11128393673

After reflecting on what has since been written regarding my text, from today forward I will stop relying on Ai to give me facts. Instead allow those with actual knowledge to best judge the correct information to be placed for others to read.
I relied on Ai to only give me correct information, trusting on a good out sourcing of reliable information, but the tools are only as good as the user (me) So I bow to those with greater knowledge and wisdom. I will refrain from using Ai again in attempt to assist users, but giving the wrong information was never my intent........I even asked Ai for an explanation.

Ai says, "Common reasons for AI providing incorrect information about automotive parts include poor data quality, biased algorithms, and limited training data. These issues can lead to unreliable outputs and mistakes in identifying the correct parts".

Therefore I have sacked Ai from any further input, until it gets better data.....the end! :wasntme:eh:blush

I agree with that, you have to take what info is returned with a pinch of salt.

However given that its a "Twist Protection" part and the answer here given states
"It ensures they do not twist or migrate under intense vibration or high RPMs."

And as we know these do come in pairs, left and right and the answer covers that too with part numbers that match your diagram above.

So maybe.....
 
I kinda feel a bit better now......but I'm not reinstating Ai again, just yet :D
 
At work we do quite a number of expert witness cases the number of these are rising significantly becuase one of the parties are using AI as part of their design.

AI has its place but its no where near accuate enough, even sites like wikapedia are only 90% accuate at best as the refrences used have a political agenda

But I don’t think we really do know what they do, the AI answer of preventing the cylinder head ‘twisting’ is pure bollox, they’re just a flimsy bit of rubber which sits between the cylinder head and valve cover and possess no structural integrity at all.
 
Someone must have the correct answer, somewhere, or why bother with such a piece of engineering?
 
I don't know, but if it's just a bit of rubber, sandwiched between the head and cover, could it be for sound/vibration damping?

That was my initial thought. Then I thought why, when the engine sounds like a bag of violently shaken nails on a good day.
