That surprised me, hadn't realised they're on successive weekends.
In fact it'll be 3 weekends on the trot for me, I'm bordering with the insane the weekend before the ceilidh...![]()

Guess where...

Ah, that'll be the wreck of the 'Flying Fid'. She was a tramp steamer carrying 180 tons of Norwegian Blue parrots from Oslo to Stromness. She ran aground in the midst of a ferociously calm day and in good visiblity. Her skipper was Olaf the Witless, a blind midget who claimed to be of seafaring Viking descent and was also an expert forger of nautical qualifications..
You can still see some of the parrot cages that were salvaged on the nearby barge. May pillows on Orkney are still stuffed with the abundant amount of blue feathers that suddenly became available. But if you order chicken in an Orcadian restaurant, be careful.....
Many people claim it is just a hulk that was sunk to form part of the 'Churchill barriers' to prevent U-Boats sneaking into Scapa Flow through the small gaps in between the islands...but I know different.
I like Orkney, so full of history.![]()

Jammy gits. I was meant to be doing a full coastline tour of the whole of Ireland with me mate the week after GOTC..I've just had to tell him I can't do it.....![]()
