Two questions really. Not long had the bike and I am going to sevice it myself. I read that BMW recomend a certain grade of loctite but I'm not sure what one. Anyone? Also I know I will need to check the drive shaft splines by pulling backm the rubber shroud and if need be applying some optimol paste. But how often should I check? I don't go offroad. The bike had an annual 5k ago at 4500miles and will get a small service soon.

Loctite 2701 for the pivot pins.
How many miles has the bike done?.
Why do you think you need to check the driveshaft splines?.
The bonding in the shaft can come apart after a lot of abuse, but the splines are normally ok.
Some people like to lube the splines every year because they take the bike offroad through sand, mud or water. The splined sections can stick together,so,some moly doesn't do them any harm but you should clean the splines of old grease and dirt and coat all the spline to do the job.
I lubed my splines when i had to change the clutch and renew the paralever bearings.(at 54K miles).
I am not in a rush to do it again (road use only).

Driveshaft spline lube is mainly for "K" series BMW's.

I've never seen worn shaft splines on any 1100/1150 models

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think it was needed just yet, but just need an idea of how often. I suppose the answer is not very often then. Regards Mark.

US guys spend hours fretting about lubing their splines, even what grade to lube them with.......worse than us lot:augie

Sure about that moly?

Are you sure about that moly (as opposed to non-moly) grease?

I thought moly was primary to be used when you have a lot of lubrication to consume. That is, in a final drive where the oil circulates moly makes the oil stronger (well, when the oil gets worn, or the load on the surfaces gets too high, you can wear moly rather than starting to grind steel). But it assumes that you can get rid of the consumed moly by letting it sink to the bottom as it were. The oil needs to be "live' and circulating.

Oh well - what do I know?
