What no plug!

Evening and merry Christmas and all that.

The new 800 GS feels and rides like a dream, but does anyone know what the threaded hole (which leads no-where) is for just forward of the left-side crank cases and a few inches in front of the dip-stick? Possibly for a bolt-on accessory - but why no blanking plug? It is bound to fill up with road crud in no time at all. I have simply screwed a bolt into it.

I used mine for an oil filter and hest exchanger guard to mount to (one of the 3 mounting points).
