what oil is best

So: Millers Oils Trident 20W50. It's their workshop oil(professional), so you might have to ask for it.. Helps if you throw them a bone and buy a few tubs or so..

Mazola cooking oil, look out for two for ones in Tescos, this is the green way to go.
Oyly, (you try Olive Oil but Popye might get upset!).

Your bike doesn't know anything about modern oils. And doesn't need them. RTFM

Millers and Rock oil both make something suitable as do others. Halfords Classic 20w50 is not to spec being to API SE.
If stuck most Harley dealers stock something suitable.

Its not the right spec and from the last time I smelled it reminded me of recycled gear oil.

You are right. Halfords is only API SE which is not in the manual.
It has to be API SG or better.
I didn't notice that, sorry.

So no Halfords.

You can certainly find some other 20W-50 API SG oils with a low price anyway.

PS. I didn't know that API SE oils are sold anywhere anymore, not here in Finland at least.

Two questions that may provoke this sort of retort amongst forum users are Oil and Tyres, I would suggest whatever the manual states, or any good car oil as you are dealing with a dry clutch. To be honest, any 10/40 mineral or otherwise will be fine. Folks talk a lot about mineral V Synth and there are advantages to both. Choose either, change gear at 5000 revs and forget it.
