What one thing would you change?

I love the wide bars, wouldn't want to shorten them one inch (personal preference).

I'd love to change all the build materials to those that don't rot given a sniff of a British winter.

I took Peter's advice and fitted the Fastway pegs and NN bar risers. Although I've had problems getting the front brake line sorted (the original doesn't fit with the risers in my case but Norman is sorting it), the result of the mods is very noticeable. The lower pegs mean my legs are less cramped and the bars are in a more natural position.

Tony Archer of Huddersfield is modifying the seat. I got MK1 back today and will check it out this weekend before returning it to Tony for final mods (if needed) and new covers.

I think that it is indeed an odd thing.

What?

This desire for ever bigger fuel tanks.

I find a range of 220 + miles quite enough for the UK and hopefully most if not all of Europe.

I enjoy stopping and socialising with the locals once in a while.

I like to kick the tyres, check the luggage and maybe look in my oil glass too.

And you never know what excitment may arise from a chance petrol station encounter!

Petrol is heavy and the tank is high up on the bike.

I do like the Adventure tank but only because it looks good.

Just my opinion for what it's worth;)

Peter

Handlebar switches: I'd like normal indicator and horn position and (I know I can't blame BMW for it) a switch for lights: off, pilot and on. I ride with dipped beam anyway but sometimes you want to switch them off...........and yes I do know the sacred spell to to it....

Look at me! I'm a sponsor!!

Things that could be impmroved

That is an easy question for me to answer...The Fuel Gauge!

I would really appreciate a gauge that told me the amount of gas in the tank at all times rather than the terrible gauge that is on the bike: FULL - 1/2 - 3/4 - Reserve. If BMW can tell us the exact miles left to travel once I go on reserve then why not provide accurate and useful info from FULL to reserve?

I just don't like the poor excuse for a fuel gauge that is on the bike, and as long as BMW is going to use space on the bike for a fuel gauge they should make it provide accurate information from full to empty.

I love the bike except for this one item that irrates me almost all the time. I use the trip meters but my fuel range varies widely depending on speed and wind, etc, for the trip meter doesn't really work for me.

the one thing on my wishlist...

higher pegs :D

I'm sick of scraping my toes and then the pegs around every corner in the twisties...

I also find the lurch onto a closed throttle to be a bit irritating... especially in the low gears, so fueling could be better...

Two things actually..........

1) The really Crap build quality.
What other vehicle will get rusty within six months even when kept in a dry garage? and don'say another BMW.

2) The awful fuel filler neck
It would be great to be able to fill it up properley without the problems we owners all know about.

Shame really as apart from the above it's a really good bike.

- decent fuel gauge
- wider brake lever
- switch to turn lights off
- better quality luggage, especially top box
- better quality windshield mounts
- better quality seat mounting rubber straps
- better quality high beam switch
- stop the front brake squeeling
- ride it more

ps. it's more than one thing but these are my own personal experiences and difficult to pick only one, if I had to pick one it would be "better BMW Quality!"

There seems to be so much to do to the 1200 GS I'll wait till the factory make MkII with all those niggles sorted or the Adv version which I understand is under development.
I just love my heavy, slow, old GS1150 with torque built in, manual brakes and rider cancel indicators! Ahh it is the little things that please.
Barrie.

exhaust system with muffler under the seat...... could act as a seat heater and certainly give more pannier space.

ohh..... rust on a new model berlin should work out and i have ours on the warranty list. however i do find it shocking the inside of the handle bars do rust and drip out onto the suspension nut.

Joking aside; Don't test-ride a 1200.... I was all set to sell my soul for an 1150 Adventure.........and look at me now!!! - Oh the shame of it!

The important thing is, unlike most sportsbikes, ours get used.

.........Loose in Scotland for a week........:D

Readily accessible horn switch........and better, less jerky fuelling.......please!

What is the issue? Its really quite easy to find the horn, all you have to do it try to cancel a turn indicator. ;)

The one thing I would change is the noise from the gearbox. The function is fine but sometimes it sounds like a stone dropped in my kitchen drawer.

...don't know what you're on about. Can't hear it over the noise of my Remus:D

Ditto horn and switch gear issues + ambient temperature gauge. Very picky i know but that's all i could think of on what is definately the best bike money can buy at the moment........
I wonder if anyone from Motorrad/BMW takes any notice of any of this stuff....?
Oh, just remembered the dodgy side stand as well, sorry about that!

Not much really. A couple of minor niggles:

- You can accidentally switch on the parking light by knocking the indicator against the tank and come back to a dead battery. Don't ask how I know this ...

- Some bolts corrode at even a whiff of salt and some are fine all winter. Surely there is a lesson to be learnt ...

- A metal rear carrier with bomb-proof bolts so you can wrap a f**k chain round it without risking breaking it would be great

Weedy lights and horn, but that applies to every bike.

And that's it, really

Horn and switchgear here too.

How about a nice 1200cc modern V twin engine. Would look and sound much better and after riding the new K1200 I would appreciate the extra power, especially two up.

Blasphemy!

I had a KRS and somehow missed the agricultural feel and look of the boxer.

A V-Twin indeed. Wash your mouth with soap and water.

The K1200R looks tasty, though
