What panniers for 1200gs

What are the jesse units like for ease of removal on a daily basis?? Will take a look on google!! :thumb

Lots of choices, like you all say, it's about what type of use and abuse they are going to recieve. I would image that as an inexperienced tourer the spillage risk are quite high so the logical choice is an ally set.

One thing that's always puzzled me is that if the big ally panniers like metal mules, jesse's,etc are attached so solidly to the frame that in a spill they don't come off; won't that stress then transfer to the frame and cause damage to the bike?

Probably depends on how fast the spill is / what you hit IMHO.

A bent bike may be the last of your worries, quite literally!

No doubt that caveman's set up and price look good but is there an issue on the height and weight distribution when mounted. Has anybody got a set of these?

Can my girlfriends overly generous arse fit in between em! (missus just read this link :spitfire )

in my humble opinion

Give Metal Mule a call, buy there superb boxes and the Scorion can which brings the nearside box in really close, superb workmanship, attention to detail and sensible prices. Give Paul a ring !! ask Kevin and Julia Saunders !!!! :D

Hi, fairly new to site and gs bike but i'm looking at my luggage options for an up coming trip abroad. What's the general feeling on touratech kit, metal mules etc Plus any news on wheather new adventure panniers will fit standard gs? Help, don't want to buy wrong kit!!!

Micatechs

I've got the first set of Micatechs in Europe (The Netherlands)... Brought them home from Canada with me a couple days ago.

It's hard to explain just how well made these things are.. but I felt (as I mounted them) that the fit and finish are better than the GS that they are sitting on...

I believe I read earlier that Motorrad Concepts will be bringing these in in the near future.

They do look good in the pix, side opening from what I can see...what's the capacity and how easy do they fit/remove from the bike?

There are lots of threads on these at advrider.com.

See http://www.micatech.net/policies.html for the vendor.

Getting them on and off involves 3 locking thumb-screws inside each case, removal of a rear cross-bar, and slipping them off the bullet mounts.

Took me about half a minute to get them off after I took the pictures.

I'm not affiliated, just a fan.

Is there any mention how much the Micatecs cost?

I was contemplating a 12 Adventure, but I can see a tank upgrade and a set of Micatecs instead

Now those are the danglies of the dog. :thumb

How wide are they compared to the bars/cylinders?

I'm hearing sound of wallet pain already.

Dutchman from Motorrad Concepts PM'd me on advrider, so perhaps a visit to his website and an email may get you a price??

Otherwise you could order them direct, which would have cost me about $160US in shipping charges to The Netherlands, plus duty and taxes... (on top of the $1200US cost of the things)

They are almost as wide as the Handlebars at the widest point, about 38.5" across the back.. (the website says no wider than the cylinders, but then quotes 38.25" as a width... much wider than the cylinders....)

Search on advrider for threads on the cases... lots of pictures of the details...

They do suit the street bike look IMHO far better than the OEM ones. Off road LWR ? Who knows what they would take in punishment.

Have just read their site very good, great look. I hate this site there I was convinced to go down the self build road using the Jesse's mounting system, would get exactly what I want, but then you lot throw in yet another set of panniers. Great street look neat when removed (very important IMHO) the only draw back is they make the bike more street than off road. Good job I ain't in any rush for the new ones for the Adventure.

I'm going in april and i'm still bamboozled with the choices  , Any more offers on different panniers before I flex my card??
