What touches down first ?

Hi

Travelling down to Weymouth on Sunday I managed to touch the left hand side of the bike down. I was travelling 2 up with luggage and the suspension was set for 2 up and in sport mode.

The bike was cornering fine and I didn't feel particularly "over" and to make sure I didn't imagine it I touched the right hand side down on the next bend.

I cant see any marks but wondered if it was the pegs, or stand

2 up with luggage it was probably the centre stand, the GS appears to be seriously undersprung for 2 up riding. My 07 ADV regularly grounds out with a bit of spirited riding

Have a look for shiny scrape marks on the pegs and stand, and that should tell you!

I,ve pulled my feet off the pegs on many ocasions. Quite easily done!!!!!

This is why sports bike riders hate us!!!

They can try but they'll never catch us.:

The front crash bars will touch before the pegs and then the head protectors.

I agree with Big Red. Motech crash bars touch first (and then push you wide, scarily)

An Adventure 2 up with luggage will be the bottom of the panniers, sounds like knee sliders, check the plastic at the corners.

Total weight

It does rather depend on the weight of luggage, plus the weight of rider & pillion plus all that fuel. (and which panniers are fitted

Two up with luggage. It’s the centre stand that grinds first, on both the sides on my 09 GSA.

kink of the centre stand touches down early on the left which seems more compromised side than the rhs. I havent touched down my rhs yet as my toes touch first so I d have to lift my foot out of the peg to try....

When I was young!

We used to show off how much of our footrest were worn away - now we should keep quiet about our misdemeanors! Somewhere on this forum there were lovely photos of a GS at a track day and close-ups of the scratches on the rocker covers. i wondered at the time if one could buy 'stickers' of these scratches and we could thus boast safely!
