Most likely this has been talked about before, but I do need a bit of advice please,
I first got my GS in sept.last year,2nd hand with 12k on the clock,(first ever bmw/GS)it had anakee tyres fitted and as I had not much idea as to what tyre was good or bad I stuck with them, but I don't get many miles out'a them, the rears are only lasting to about 3/3400,is this about the norm?
So what I would like to know,is there a better tyre that might give me 5k+.
Just to give you some idea,I went to the pyrenees the other week,I rode in total 2300 miles, and the tyre was brand new,0/miles,(front/rear),but I doubt very much that the rear will reach 3k.

Just been to the Pyrenees using Metzeler Tourance's. Did 3000miles and the thread depth went down from 9mm to 5.5mm i.e. half worn. Same grip levels as Anakees.

Tourances every time for me. I like them and have confidence in them, for me that is more important than wear rate. Talking of wear rate, two up and a mixture of touring and general riding Rear 6.5K Front 12K (i.e 2 rears to one front) ish :thumb
HTH's

thanks for the replys,I will try these M/T,I have had no trouble with grip from the Anakee,I just assume they are a softish tyre.
GSmonkey, were you by any chance in Jaca?grand hotel?

I got 20,000 Km out of my rear Anakee. The front has 31,000 Km and could do with replacing. I have ordered a pair of TKC-80s and they are going on the Bike next week.:thumb2

I like the Anakees. They have been good both on the pavement and on the Forest Service (Off) roads. But I am really looking forward to the TKC's.:clap

Annakee 2 / 1200 GSA

Just come back from France and Spain,1700 miles in a week.replaced my tourances just before going with the new Annakee 2.We had rain, heat ,gravel, super sticky tarmac, etc tyres performed faultlessly, minimum wear,in fact the little spikes are still visible on the front, grip enabled me to get my boots to scrape on some of the tighter corners.According to the Michelin press release they are supposed to offer up to 33% longer life and better wet weather performance.:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

Spock - 3.5k on a rear Anakee is not very much! - u must be gunning it with smoke effects. :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

(6K is about right)

I used to get 4k from a rear Anakee. There again, I own neither pipe nor slippers:thumb

Ah !! very good very good!!:aidan:aidan:aidan:aidan

My first set were Anakees. They are no where near the performance of Metzeler Tourances. I also get 12K on the rear and 15K on the front - but then again, most mileage is A road and M way

I got over 10,000 miles out of my Metzelers & still going strong...

Mind you 4500 miles was in a sea container....:D

how the feck did u do that?????

I am wondering the same thing, going by what you guys are getting. I still have the front on the bike that it came with and it has 31,318 km on it right now. There still is some tread left. Not a lot. Maybe our pavement is different compound here.:nenau

My back Tire was looking pretty bad, very little tread left when I did replace it. The replacement has still got lots of tread and looks good.

This could be BS, but I was told that tires in Canada cost more than the USA because of the D.O.T. standards here.

The back tire on my KTM 530 is wearing really fast though. I will be lucky to get 2,000 km out of it.

Spock, I am sure that whatever tires you get. They will be the logical ones to get.:D

(Sorry, I just couldn’t resist.)
well lets hope so,as long as they are round and black, and maybe I ort'a back it off a bit,or only ride when it's wet:moped:
