just wondering what tyres people are on? what tyres you have tried and which ones you feel are the best?
I have had the metzler tourance and EXP, Dunlop D607, Avon Distanzia and now Conti Trail Attack. have found the conti's the best so far, wet and dry, and the best for wear by far. has anyone tried the Michelin Pilot Road or Pirelli Scorpions?

What are you running them on?

I've just gone back to original Tourances for my 08 GSA. Prior, it was supplied new with Bridgstones and then I went to Trail Attacks.

My perception of the first two is that they haven't been as good as the Tourances I ran for years before. Only just put the Tourances on so too early to make a further judgement.

One of the main issues I've had is strange wear patterns on the front. I'm used to getting circa 6k out of a rear tyre (year in year out!) and about double that on the front.

I'm still getting the 6k at the back but front needs changing at the same time - maily because it gets 'blocked' - very uneven tread.:blast

I wonder whether it's the ESA on the bike doing it. :nenau BMW won't make any kind of constructive comment!:rob

The cheapest deal I can find.

M+P did a great deal of a pair of tourances for £125 a while ago :thumb

Tyres

On my first set of tyres as new to BMW .
I fitted a new set of Tourances( Old type)
Found them to be great - tend to slide occasionally when pushed hard as the edges can go - wear really well , so far got 4000 miles out of them but will be looking a changing them over the next 500 to 1000 miles.

I will try the road smarts next as would like a little more side grip and road bias. (anyone tried them yet?)

Tourances for me 10 / 10 :thumb2

What's the problem???

The oil threads are some of the best entertainment on this forum :rob

to be fair, its a bike forum, so not exactly going to be posts on best air-freshener, or best cup holder :D

Got battle wings on front and rear, only been riding 9 months, so i am not pushing the bike or its tyre to the limits. They work well, ridden in wet, never had any problems, will put another of the same on i think

Hopefully we can raise tyres to the same level of controversy:D

If we are lucky - someone will come along and try to tell us that using tyres well past their shelf life is fine because they are made out of oil :D

We all know that oil is already millions of years old, so what difference can a few years make ;)

If we are lucky - someone will come along and try to tell us that the 1200GS is by far superior machine to the 1150 GS that it replaced...

;););)

Cable ties - yes now there is a controversial subject :D

Black ones are safest; but guess what? - they are all made from oil but they don't last a million years!

But we digress, this is a tyre thread :D

No need, it is 'common-sense' that the 1200 is far superior - all other opinion is 'piffle'

;)

Trying Maxxis for the first time after Bridgestones and Metzelers the last of which cost me £208 fitted as against £160 for the Maxxis.

Early days yet with just a 1,000 odd miles on them and the roads haven't been the best, if it is not snow and ice it is mud and slurry but so far so good in what dry roads we have had, haven't really pushed them in the wet yet as the roads are too greasy. Time will tell what the wear rate is like but if I can get near the 10,400 mile mark for my last set and with them being 20% cheaper I will be well pleased. :bounce1

Oh heck :blast

Someone's taking it seriously... :augie

Tourance

My GS is going in to the local bike shop (non-BumWee) on Friday for an MOT and a pair of Tourances to replace the orginal front Dunlop and a squared off rear Tourance. 205 all in. My boy will change the oil and pads (not that I don't know how) and I'm good for Easter :thumb2
