what tyres are you on?

I just put the Heidenau K60 on the rear and can't wait to get out to the desert to try it out. I have the Tourance on the front, we'll see how they work together.

Cable ties - yes now there is a controversial subject :D

Black ones are safest; but guess what? - they are all made from oil but they don't last a million years!

But we digress, this is a tyre thread :D

Why would'nt a plastic cable tie last a million years?:nenau

BTW - I had two sets of Battlewings (5.5K for both rears), and I'm on Roadsmarts now. Roadsmarts are a level up on grip (wet or dry) but the Battlewings were 7/10. Can't get any rear tyre to do more than 5K before being past it's sell by date. Must be my riding style.:)

Because sunlight degrades nylon - carbon black additive to the black ones greatly reduce the effect of sunlight - the natural ones degrade very very quickly and fall apart surprising quickly. Not sure how long the other colours last in comparison.

For the last 300km on ContiTrail Attack. Before them Tourance and can only say for Asphalt Conti is much better.

As for Off road still to be seen.

Michelin Anakee

Got nearly 10.000 miles from my rear, the front one is still going strong.

Excellent grip in the dry, not the same story when it rains but then again I tend not to push it as hard.

Never been riding the bike hard enough to trigger the ABS, so I guess the tyres have been safe so far...

:augie

09 GSA it came with round ones will they be ok

Depends on what the percentage compound mix is but as a general rule of thumb round is good, inflated is even better, don't forget oil of any type is not to be applied, though this would make for an exiting journey, maybe one better suited to the dangerous sports mob.

Now I've had a chance to break my Tourances in I think I shall be looking to go back to Conti Trail Attacks next time!:blast

just wondering what tyres people are on? what tyres you have tried and which ones you feel are the best?
I have had the metzler tourance and EXP, Dunlop D607, Avon Distanzia and now Conti Trail Attack. have found the conti's the best so far, wet and dry, and the best for wear by far. has anyone tried the Michelin Pilot Road or Pirelli Scorpions?

Round ones!:blagblah

New Tourances fitted to my 2001 Tiger today. £195 the pair including new Continental inner tubes full balance. C&B tyres in Farnworth, excellent and very fast service. Stood and watched, well impressed with the attention to detail (cleaning internal of rims etc.) Now to run them in:)

2 f*cking punctures in 12 days!!!

... just finished night shift this morning and guess what...

ANOTHER f*cking puncture, last one was 12 days ago, this time it's not a thin brown glass splinter but a big old screw...

... and the guy from the tyre place says to me: "it's a bit too much on the edge, mate, maybe the fix ain't gonna work..."

What the f*ck is he on about??? What edge??? I thought a brand new tyre could be fixed, wherever the puncture!!!

Or am I just a tired bitter bellend who had a bad night at work and has lost his patience???

Nothing in my Hughes guide about plugging / repairing tyres, but I'm sure that they can't plug a tyre if its outside the central 3/4 of the tread pattern. (or something like that....). It could be their own guidelines, not sure, but it doesn't surprise me I'm afraid..:comfort

Cheers for that.

I'll get my coat.

Harry, I would put a new back tyre on especially as you will be two up. I get about 6k from a rear.

What are you running them on?

I've just gone back to original Tourances for my 08 GSA. Prior, it was supplied new with Bridgstones and then I went to Trail Attacks.

My perception of the first two is that they haven't been as good as the Tourances I ran for years before. Only just put the Tourances on so too early to make a further judgement.

One of the main issues I've had is strange wear patterns on the front. I'm used to getting circa 6k out of a rear tyre (year in year out!) and about double that on the front.

I'm still getting the 6k at the back but front needs changing at the same time - maily because it gets 'blocked' - very uneven tread.:blast

I wonder whether it's the ESA on the bike doing it. :nenau BMW won't make any kind of constructive comment!:rob

Hi Andy our Bike club had a talk by our local bike tyre supplier,on Thurs evening here in Norwich. They got this Guy from BIKE TYRESTORE to do the techy talk all about tryes. The company are one of the biggest suppliers of bike tyres in the UK. They have a freephone No 0800 281 413 the Guy to talk to about your probs is Adam Rous I would be most surprised if Adam could'nt explain what the probelm is. I do not know Adam personally but he did tell us he would be more than happy to sort out tyre Probs the guy is passionate about his subject. If any of you guys are involved in any clubs get him if you can to come over to your meeting and do the talk he did for us. You will come away alot better informed about those black hoops. Hope this helps you out. Dave :beerjug:

I had Avon Storms on my 1st 1200 GS and they were the most confidence tyres ever. My current Gs has conti attacks which are very good but I'm going to fit the Avons when replacement time comes knocking . Bloody good and British.:thumb
