I know there must be 4 Zillion posts on this one, but all the same it's good to get the latest opinions. I have the oportunity to change to a different tyre as both need doing, I have only had the bike since November and have done 4000mls on Bridgestone Trail Wings. No complaints so far but they do not feel very sure footed in the wet, I am happy to stick to Bridgestones as I have always had them on all my bikes but I have heard Tourances suit the 1150 GS. I have priced up both and been quoted £160 Bridgestone £170 Pirelli to loose wheels so price is not an issue. I only ever do road riding with the occasional excursion on bad/unmaintained roads and explore the handling to the utmost so grip is more important to me that an all round or long life tyre, I only ride solo and don't regularly tour ,which ones should I get? over to the experts....... :D

I've only ever used Dunlop D607s on my bike, no complaints about them so no reason to change.

My girlfriend's 650 GS had Bridgestone Deathwings fitted, they were awful!

Metz Tourances get my vote, good in the dry and wet. Had my 1150 on the track a while back and touched the heads down without loss of grip. Paid £150 fitted to loose wheels about 6 months ago.

I`ve used
Metzeler Enduro 4 which were very good

Metzeler Tourance which seemed even better

Pirell MT90 Scorpion which I feel are the best (got them on both 1100`s now)

I've had a Scorpion on the rear of my 1150 for the last 2000 miles and I can't fault it. As good as, if not better than, the Tourance. And cheaper.

I had a pair of Avon Distanzias fitted last month before toddling off to Croatia. I'm very happy with them 4000 miles later. Looks like they are going to last more miles than the Tourances I have previously been using without any loss in performance.

Tourances are SO much better than Trail Wings it suprises me dealers would even send a demo bike out with TW's fitted. You'll definitely get a more confident feel in the wet on the Tourances. Unreservedly recommended. :thumb

re distanzias go mine cheap last year and after 7000 miles the front one is only half worn, rear was replaced at 5200 due to being 2/3 worn .reasonable but not as trustworthy as previous tourances in wet/slippy conditions. original t66 michelins were terrible

Always gone back to Tourances

Had four GSs' all bar one came with o/e T66 - must be only way Michelin get shut of the heaps of sh*t - don't even think about em. Tried Trailwings - crap, Anakees - ok but not as good as Tourances. Not tried the Scorpions - shame I've just had a pair of Tourances fitted today or I might have given them a go - but perhaps not - I've got confidence in Tourances & that's one of the most important things :thumb

Oh & take a look at the frequently asked questions for newbies section - Fanums review of tyres is an excellent bit of info.

Had trail wings on my first AT and thought they were crap. Changed to Enduro 4's and thought they were better. Had trailwings on the R100GS when I bought it and changed to Enduro 4's again but somehow they weren't as good on the GS as they had been on the AT so, changed to Tourance's which were a huge improvement. The 12 came with Anakee's which seemed ok except in the wet so changed to Tourance. Wet and dry grip alot more predictable and seem to be lasting longer.

Had 4 GS's ..tried Enduro 4, Tourance, Trailwing, Scorpion, Distanzia, BT020 & Anakee.. always gone back to Tourance.. best all round tyre I've used.
Continental now have the Road attack in GS sizes.. gonna try them next.. you never know :thumb

Thanks for all your replys chaps, I think I am going for Tourances, on balance they seem to be the favourite, or at least better than the death wings I am currently on :D

Tourances fitted today, £168 to loose wheels, is that good? Hopefully be out this weekend to give them a try :clap

Good price??? Not so sure, you can get em fitted closer to £150. Did you try Cabot or Protyre?

I'm bumping this thread because I'm interested as to how many miles people are getting out of a pair of Scorpions?

Cheers, Dan.

I've used Enduro 4 tyres for the last 3,000 miles and back is outta life. These are crap tyres IMHO, the front has pathetic grip on tarmac when hot (has better grip in cold!) and they inspire no confidence on corners. They were suprisingly good off-road at Salisbury however.

I've just bought some Heidenau's for £139 delivered which is a bargain. These tyres are supposed to last longer than tourances and they look quite meaty too.
