What tyres?

Been riding super smooth lately and just done 10k miles on Michelin Pilot Road 5 Trail on my 1250 GSA. Could of achieved a few more miles as still a little tread in the middle but no tread left on the edges. I’ve never had a tyre where the middle of the tread lasted longer than the side tread. But then I have been riding mostly twisties. Found some great roads especially in Leicestershire whilst on furlough. 8k miles in 10wks😁
Found a great little Coffee & fabulous Cake stop called “Spokes” in Harringworth. Also delicious sausage @ bacon rolls.
Trail Attack 3’s fitted yesterday and done 250m today and Wow they are oh so much quieter than the Pilot Roads which is a great result for me. Feel sticky too👍
Cheers.

I was searching for GS perfection. It never happened. You’ve not had the latest 2020 1260 Multi, have you? ;)

I’m still trying to work out the maths on ownership , 6 LC , 1290 and now a 1260 ... hmm fickle me thinks , was it a colour thing , tyres or an irrational itch and too much choice , not lol 😂 glad you happy now for at least the next 10 months .. chicken chaser next 🤣

Two 1290’s :rob :D

Has my Conti Trail Attacks fitted today, just ridden home about 2 miles only. Looking forward to getting up into the mountains, hopefully later this week. It’s currently 36 C and only 29% humidity, it’s like riding around inside of a hair dryer.

Thats hot. T shirt riding weather. Only ride slow though. :beerjug:

Checked the tyre pressure on my new CTA3, the rear was 47 psi and front was 37.5 psi, the ambient temperature was around 35 c when I checked them, I will check them again when it’s around 25c, I don’t know when that will be, as it’s past midnight and still 28c. As a matter of interest, what pressure are you guys running on the CTA 3 ?

I’m 85kg and in the UK. On my 1250GSA with no luggage 39psi & 33psi. With luggage 42 & 36. The manual recommends 42 & 36 but that’s a little too stiff and bumpy for me but ok with luggage.
On my previous1200TC GSA the manual recommended 36 & 32 which is what I kept it at unladen and 42&36 with luggage.

Industry standard for tyre pressures these days seems to be 36 front 42 rear but IIRC those are cold tyre pressures and I believe manufacturers use 20 deg C as cold bench mark

I use 2.5 front and 2.9 rear in the UK , in Spain I tend to favour a small drop to 2.4 / 2.8 whether it’s in my head I’m not sure but seems to make them feel better and not run to high at high temps and constant hard riding , as you seem to do when presented by the great mountain roads .👍

Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. I knew when I checked them after being fitted, that they were way too high, but not sure how much of that was down to the extreme heat. I will be glad when August has gone, and we’re back to reasonable temperatures.

Just checked the tyres pressures in 22c temperatures, the front is now bang on at at 36psi and the rear was 45 psi, so dropped it to 42 psi.

It just go to show how much influence the outside temperatures can make to the tyre pressure.
