Everywhere I dont really want to be...
Well to cut a long story short - Does anyone here know of an "independent" garage who will fix either a main bearing or big end bearing failure ( and ancillary stuff) on an 1150GSA.

It started acting rough about 1 km from home. We've dropped the oil and found Shiny metallic when filtered. Its my "do-it-all" bike. I don't really want to scrap it but here in Switzerland its a right off I recon. :(

Any ideas?

Cheers..

Why would it be a write off?
(I know that doesn't help, but making metal causes it to be a write off?)

Remove engine and send to Mikeyboy of this parish.. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/343136-mikeyboy-overland-and-classic-i-am-moving

get a recovery truck you might save the engine and do some investigation work good luck

The bikes here in the garage. We've taken the filter out an noted that it's full of metallic looking "bits". Although we dont know exactly if its the Main or Big end bearings, theres also a good chance that items in the little end will need looking at.

I can probably take it all apart...Its the putting back together thatI couldnt do...

Its not that the metal itself means its a write off...Its the cost here in Switzerland to get someone to take it apart and put it back together again...

...Id be interested in taking to him. Is this a normal thing for him ?

Whereabouts are you based?

..Switzerland...

Depends where you are but there will no doubt be places in Germany that will do the job cheaper , I know for example my cousin priced up some work at an independant in Southern Germany (Anton Uecker, Lexenmuehle 6, 87541, Bad Hindelang ) to convert his K100LT to German spec from UK spec and get it TUV'd and registered and it was suprisingly reasonable .

Other option is a complete motor from the likes of Motorworks or James Sherlock (the latter have a few advertised at the moment on E Bay for between £270 to £400) , get it sent on a pallet and pay the 10 or so hours to have it fitted

Always makes me chuckle when someone says remove the engine on these bikes.

:D

Yup..Thats the issue. Its not just "remove the 4 bolts and lift it out of the frame" ...:(
