Tried sitting on a K1200r. With low seat I could almost flat foot, but the bike had ESA and was stopped and un PDI'd (no battery) so we couldn't tell what the suspension was set on. Other impressions were very low CofG so that lifting off side stan was easy. Low seat is Hard. Panniers are small and tail rack/bag similar. But it isn't designed to do the same as a GS, RT or even the ST.

I am also 29" inside leg so I bought the GS with the low seat and it is fine. Travelled all over Spain France and UK with no discomfort.

I suggest you get yourself a cheap 2nd hand Suzuki Burgman 400 or Honda Silver Wing before you make your mind up. That's not a joke, I'm serious.
The Burgman has the lowest seat around, carries two full face helmets under the seat, cruises at 80-90mph and has no foot controls.
The Silver Wing is not quite as low, but otherwise has all the above, is 10-15mph faster and is available with ABS.

I bought my bike to keep. I don't move from bike to bike. The factory made all the mods to the stands. The presets I ordered on the Wilbers were for 2-up and off-road. I normally ride alone so the 2-up is really for carrying gear. I don't have any clearance problems or lifting problems. We're only talking about a 3" overall decrease in seat height change with the bike only going about 2" lower. Basically, I wanted to feel safe on the bike, so I did my homework before ordering it to find ways to make that happen. Many just learn to adapt to never flat-footing and use the stock seat & shocks. I just chose the way that made me feel more secure. It would be nice if BMW offered these bikes in versions for shorter people, but at least there are ways to get there. Good luck with your decision, whatever it may be.

Hmmm just looking in on this thread with interest. I have a mate who had a m/c accident and lost some of his motor functions. i.e. he could walk just about but couldn't carry loads or move his joints to their fullest extent.

He went out and got a conversion for his bike which was like an automatic sidestand thing, which sprang out either by command or at a certain speed, it looked like a mini stabiliser! I can ask him where he got it from certainly. It helped him loads when the bike was stopped.

But I think there is a UK club for disabled bikers who have a large contingent of do it yourselfers who make kit to help people who have limited mobility.

If this injury is likely to be a medium to long term thing then I would consider on getting what you want and then modding it to fit you.

If you get an alternative bike to the GS, will you regret it afterwards?

Good luck and I will see what I can extract from my friend about the kit he uses.

Have the lower shocks affected ground clearance?

How is the seat / bar relationship with the lower seat?
