Looking for a way out
Decided to sell my Garmin V. All in good nick with City Select 5, bike/RAM mount, cables, carry pouch and car bean bag.

Whats it worth?
Any Offers?

I'm currently selling a Streetpilot 3 for £250.

I'd guess the GPS V is probably worth £150 ... and a bit extra for the RAM mount.

You might get more on Ebay though - the bidding seems to get a bit frantic sometimes.

Does it come with the Atlantic base map?

Second City Select unlock code unused?

If yes/yes, I could be interested :)

Cheers,
Michel

Surely if you buy a 2nd hand copy of City Select, both unlock codes will work for you. When you install it on your PC, it can't know that someone else has unlocked a GPS on their PC ...

Or am I misunderstanding?

Sorry didn't mean to derail the thread :)

You are misunderstanding. .....It's all to do with the unluck code regonizing the unit serial number which has to be recorded at Garmin's website. MiGSel is likely after the unused unlock code. They come with the possibility ti unlock 2 units on one mapsource licence. With this he can use a totally unrelated GPS unit cheaper than buying mapsource new again and it's all legit ;)

Yes you are, sorry mate :)

The City Select CD comes with 1 unlock code.

The second unlock goes through the Garmin website only. You register the software with your first and second serial number. Then you get a second unlock code and both codes are "spent" after that.

Michel

OK, you've got me interested jimbo.

I can't find your mail address, can you send me a note please? >> [email protected]

Yeah you're right about the unlock codes, my mistake, I just had a look in my Streetpilot box - only one code.

I think you still not understand.

No matter what's in the box you can unlock the map to work with TWO different navigator units. 95% of all users never use the map on anything but the navigator that came in the box together with the map. Therefore most users have a second unused unlock opportunity.

So if you happen to have a navigator without a map license (stolen?) it may be a good idea to buy your kit just to get access to a map.

Just sealed the deal with jimbo, the GPS V is sold :)

And no, it's not to get maps for a stolen unit, hehe.

Cheers jimbo!

No I think I do finally understand :)

My misunderstanding was thinking that both unlock codes came in the box - whereas actually the second one is presumably generated when you request it from Garmin's web site, and hence is keyed to the second GPS hardware you want to use.
