Whats a reason part ex value for my GS - advice please?

Good stuff

Looks like I'll keep the 1150 GSA tractors a wee while longer as their values have stabilised now at £4-5k :)

Just shows how the sales success of the WC has affected residuals though & couple that with all the warranty aggro tooing & froing to the dealers for 'issues'

It makes it look less appealing to me - no matter how well they ride :)

BMW have a huge issue with resale values as the more succesful they are, the more they sell, the more get put on the used market and the value drops. The aggro some people have had makes no difference at all in my opinion as it's only as the vast majority have been no problem at all and they are an excellent bike. People really like them and rightly so.

Also PCP will crucify the whole used bike industry as more and more bikes appear on the used market. Quite why people buy new is beyond me as there is some great used kit out there.

Saying that, I'll be buying a new bike in the next couple of months but I'll keep it for many years and resale value is not an issue for me.

Also bear in mind how many GS'es are floating around. Auto trader for example has 175 listed this morning (and they've split out the Adventures now so that's only the GS). Supply and demand coupled with cheap monthly PCP.

You're right.......................but sir for £200 per month you could be riding this and ker-ching

Bums on seats..............is the name of the game now

Finance - They have said they only get paid out now after 6 months so if I take and dont keep the loan for 6 payments they get virtually nothing. So they would offer a free service if I paid over finance for 6 months!

Privately - which is the best route, MCN, BikeTrader or eBay?

always been autotrader for me :)
The weird thing is the higher mileage bikes seem a lot smoother in my experience but everyone wants low mileage.

So without the extra spoke wheels and Wilbers .....it was worth about £7-£7.5k then as a private sale and in the £6's as a trade in

Maybe, but anything is only worth what people are prepared to pay for it and different folk value different things at different times of the year!

interestingly the Wilbers was actually a disadvantage when I went to look at a trade in as it is a non-standard BMW part which can't be warrantied by BMW (remember all BMW dealers offer warranty on secondhand bikes). So my dealer couldn't sell it through the showroom and had to look to get a price from a trader which probably lowered the part ex price somewhat.

In the end I was happy with what I got for it as a private sale on here and that's all that matters to me. I didn't have to get rid of it, there was no corrosion and it was a very well sorted bike which handled and went very well, in fact the most fun to ride of all the GS bikes I have had or ridden (going back to my first in 1990). Quite simply I just fancied something else, the time was right and I am fortunate enough to be able to afford to!

I will buy the new bike with the same attitude as when I bought the LC - do I like it, does it suit my riding style/tastes and will I enjoy it. That's what matters most to me and it's likely value in 2-3 years will not feature in my purchase decision at all.

SO have you decided what it is to be Mr T-meister?

XR Mr P!

Sport with manual suspension then off to Wilbers to have a nice nightline fitted :thumb2

It will be worth £2.50 in 5 years I expect, but hey I'm intending to have huge fun on it whilst it depreciates :D

It's all about condition. If they can resell it (needs to be very nice and BMW History) you will get £1500 more than if it needs to be traded out. You don't mention condition?

It's virtually as new condition, full service history and recent tyres, so it might be a slightly low initial offer or maybe it's low because it's not a TE. As it is actually about 60% new (3000 mile old engine and 1000 mile old rear shock), it'd be madness to trade it in for another GS. Swapping it for something completely different is a different matter....

That's where the problem is, you're trading in with a different brand. They'll always low ball you, as they'll need to either sell to a local BMW dealer, who will low ball them, as they are the enemy, or auction it. If changing brands, always sell privately rather than trade in.:rob

I was testing the water , but you are right in what you say. Always better to sell privately , or on here and get buggered .. lol

It begs the question why are you even testing the water when the TB is so new? Not jelling with it?

Just got £9500 trade in for a 14 plate GS te with spoked wheels. No other extras on it against a KTM 1290gt. Not bad really as had the bike 15months, put another 9k on the clock and paid £10500 for it inc BMW warranty. Done two Euro trips, two Scotland trips and ragged it everywhere. Also due service and in a few month and mot...

tbh yes, it will be on a 17 plate in March. Not old stock. Just a more realistic dealer that wants to do business and they obviously have margins to play with on new bikes. Will list some parts on here soon from old bike, panniers, top box rack etc ....
