I have never used this stuff myself, but stumbled across it while I was looking for something else...

Autoglym custom wheel cleaner

Might do the trick without causing the problems being discussed on thsi thread? :nenau

What annoys me most is that I use really good products, Merguiars, Poorboys, Chemical Guys, Zaino etc when I detail my car and for some reason I never paid as much attention to the GS. Doh! :blast

If looks of the bike are important - as it is to most of us vain tossers - I would suggest taking the wheels off and sending them to central wheel components for a rebuild with stainless (satin or polished spokes) and powder coated rims.

Cost me £300-00 (including an 18" front rim) for my bobberised W650.

You then get as new, or better than new wheels, with a colour or finish of your choice. This is part of my plan for GS blingdom but will be going for satin black and satin spokes so it will be stealth bling or something like that.

BMW X-Spoke wheels are notoriously difficult to re-lace. As far as I'm aware, there's only one or two wheel specialists in the country that will attempt it.

The WD40 seems to have worked. I think it might need some elbow grease and a couple of sessions, but seems ok.
