I've been showing pictures of various BM bikes to SWMBO.
(I got into trouble when I arrived home on my K1200rs, and she said:"You never told me it was going to be that colour!)

When she saw a photo of a nice blue/white 1150GS, she asked: "What's that big front mudguard thing doing there?"

"It's a beak", says I.

"What's it for?", says she.

Emmmmmm.

So, is it just a styling cue from enduro bikes?
Is it a cupholder for using during coffee stops?

So, what's it for?

Just tell the woman that it's not possible to explain these things to her if she doesn't have a grasp of first principles and since she's asking, it's obvious that she doesn't.

:augie

It's a style cue.. to make the bike 'look' like a trail bike.

the old chesnut about it being an air scoop is nonsense - I rode my bike for almost a year with no beak and the oil temp was completely unaffected. 5 bars as always.

earlier in the year at matlock a young kid looking at an 1150 I was eyeing asked 'dad why has that bike got 2 mudguards'

why indeed??
