Mike, I've had a lot of enquiries. Yet only Bryn came to see it and he gave it a glowing report. I've seen lower mileage bikes sell for more than what I'm asking although they were far less well equipped.
I could split the bike and get little more than I was asking, but I don't want to at this stage.
I think the analysis is dead right.
Everyone was creaming over a 1200TC at £6500, which appears cheap, but the bike was rough with corrosion so imho it was priced about right. The current 1150 for sale at £3300 is a cheap bike, but there is a fair amount of corrosion on the front cover for a bike with such "low" mileage. There is a 2002 single spark for sale, similar mileage to my 04 twin spark with a lot less extras for £3900 yet we have no pictures and straight away there is an enquiry for the bike.
Break my bike down and it is a good buy, evidenced by the offer for the parts of £1350 leaving the actual price of a clean standard GSA with 41k miles at £3500. I don't think that is over pricing it, but hey ho that's life.
JB has been offered low £3's for his standard bike which is a dealer offer, surely it should be worth more privately than what a dealer will offer on a px? Removing the extras would probably net him over £1000 meaning that he should easily get £4500 for his 57k miler. People can't see the value of the extras, and only see £4500 for a bike with 57k miles.
I have replied to every PM sent on my bike, and have received about 50% back as acknowledgement. Personally I find this quite rude. OK it's not the bike for you, but please have the common decency to reply.
As it is, little un loves riding on the bike so I'll hold out for next year and see if prices recover. If they don't then I'll split the bike and get what it's worth that way.
That's all fine Phil, but the fact remains that the bike didn't sell - it was priced above its market value (whether you removed the bits or not). You're now left with a bike you wanted to sell three plus months ago as we approach the end of the 'season', when all bike prices traditionally drop. Do you think it will be be worth more, or less next summer when it is a year older? I'm not saying this to piss you off, but rather to ask why you thought it didn't sell if this reason wasn't it?
The figure you or I (or JB) think its worth is meaningless in the the face of this experience. JB's continuing crusade to bolster 1150 prices by insisting that they are worth more than they are selling for can't change the fact that you had a good advert set out to sell a good bike - and that it didn't sell...
