What's it worth - 2005 1150 GSA?

Mike, I've had a lot of enquiries. Yet only Bryn came to see it and he gave it a glowing report. I've seen lower mileage bikes sell for more than what I'm asking although they were far less well equipped.
I could split the bike and get little more than I was asking, but I don't want to at this stage.

I think the analysis is dead right.

Everyone was creaming over a 1200TC at £6500, which appears cheap, but the bike was rough with corrosion so imho it was priced about right. The current 1150 for sale at £3300 is a cheap bike, but there is a fair amount of corrosion on the front cover for a bike with such "low" mileage. There is a 2002 single spark for sale, similar mileage to my 04 twin spark with a lot less extras for £3900 yet we have no pictures and straight away there is an enquiry for the bike.

Break my bike down and it is a good buy, evidenced by the offer for the parts of £1350 leaving the actual price of a clean standard GSA with 41k miles at £3500. I don't think that is over pricing it, but hey ho that's life.

JB has been offered low £3's for his standard bike which is a dealer offer, surely it should be worth more privately than what a dealer will offer on a px? Removing the extras would probably net him over £1000 meaning that he should easily get £4500 for his 57k miler. People can't see the value of the extras, and only see £4500 for a bike with 57k miles.

I have replied to every PM sent on my bike, and have received about 50% back as acknowledgement. Personally I find this quite rude. OK it's not the bike for you, but please have the common decency to reply.

As it is, little un loves riding on the bike so I'll hold out for next year and see if prices recover. If they don't then I'll split the bike and get what it's worth that way.

That's all fine Phil, but the fact remains that the bike didn't sell - it was priced above its market value (whether you removed the bits or not). You're now left with a bike you wanted to sell three plus months ago as we approach the end of the 'season', when all bike prices traditionally drop. Do you think it will be be worth more, or less next summer when it is a year older? I'm not saying this to piss you off, but rather to ask why you thought it didn't sell if this reason wasn't it?

The figure you or I (or JB) think its worth is meaningless in the the face of this experience. JB's continuing crusade to bolster 1150 prices by insisting that they are worth more than they are selling for can't change the fact that you had a good advert set out to sell a good bike - and that it didn't sell...

I was happy to pay what I paid for my 1150. It was the spec I'd been hoping to get (single plug, non-servo ABS), and came with BMW luggage, a GPS unit, spotlights & foglights, new battery, almost-new tyres, braided steel lines, new throttle cables, and had been kept in sweet condition. That was all worth the price I paid. Another guy might have attempted to beat the price down, but to me the price I paid was fair.

So IMO, if you really want to sell your 1150, and can hang out till you find the right buyer, you'll get good money for your 1150. Marketing and magazine "reviews" (of 1200s) have little effect on guys who know what they want, what the better bike is for them - if an 1150 is for them, then that's worth more money than even a mint 1200.

Its not the value stopping me changing, more cost per grin. Is a new GS / AT / 1190 / MS worth my low mileage well appointed bike plus maybe 9/10/11K? I'd rather keep the cash for other stuff

If I get to a point I can easily afford it I may well change - but keeping it and buying another to keep it company makes more sense right now

It didn't but I was happy to lose the sale over £50 Mike such is my lack of desperation to sell it. If I really wanted to sell it I would have stripped it and got more than I am asking, that is fact.
if people can't see the wood for the trees then I'm happy to hold on to it and let them deal with the bargain bikes and the associated hassles that come with piss stained gearboxes, rotten front covers or the AA of that chose a 1200.

JB my opinion for what its worth

Your bike is what i would describe as a top notch old GS ( I am not a fan) and 3 grand in the scheme of things is not a huge sum of money for what your bike is, TBH 4 grand with all its bits on looks good value, too good to actually sell !!

So why not pony up for the trials bike and stick the Iron horse away under wraps for a year or 2 or even 10 until it is really worth something as from here it cant go down IMO.

I keep casting my eye looking for something that will only go up in value and at the moment a good 1100/1150 is just that sadly I don't have the room at the moment.

and there we have the correct answer, Rick

Is it worth £3k of smiles?

Is it worth £4k of smiles, fully tricked up to suit me..............I think it is:thumby:

As Rick says, if they stay in the garage...........so what?

The market is so shite at the moment for 1150's, whether they be good, bad or indifferent - so as Phil says, he's keeping his:thumby:

I remember when Airhead GS's were the same, about 10 years ago, you were lucky to get £2000 for one and now an old worn out dog is fetching £3k

I bought a really good condition 2005 1150 Adv SE, 30k miles, FSH, with ally panniers, Remus and Y piece for £5200 in July.

I don't regret it at all. I love the bike and think that if the right person wants it they will pay what you are looking for.

Precisely

I remember buying my FS1E when i was sicteen and i think it was about 400quid on the road Try and buy one now in a similar condition to your donkey and you will need about £4K

Lay it up and look after it and reap the reward when you are too old to ride the bloody thing

I think the 1150 has not yet reached "classic" status. I'm sure it will, and by then there will be fewer about, and the price will rise. Quite fancy buying a nice GSA myself as I'd say the money's better there than being in the bank.
I'd want a minter with all the luggage and preferably less miles than 57k. I know that mileage is not a reliability issue, but one in the 30s would be a better bet.

At the moment, it's just an old bike and the sale prices reflect that.
