Hi all new here (hello), a friend has an 06 GS1200 adventurer and having rode it yesterday I guess i'm hooked. Have an RSV Mille and seriously considering a gs. I have seen an 04 GS1150 adventure with 20k FSH panniers etc for £6K very good condition etc etc.

Whats the main differences between my friends 06 adventurer and the 04? Other than cosmetics and the missing 50cc should I expect to de dissappointed in riding them back to back??

I actually prefer the look of the older bike, looks more aggressive and a bit more sturdy!!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

kin, ell, whats the diffrence between a kawi and a motoguzzi, ??
there a world apart, test ride both, and make your decision then,
the 1150 and 1200 have nothing in common other than a badge,
speed?1200
reliable?1150 (usually)

Found a good thread here thats answered all my q's, well mostly!! Is there much between them in the power and speed department?? Must say I was very impressed with the 1200, dunno wat power it makes in comparison to 1150. In saying that my friends bike has straight hrough pipes and an Akropovic end can (sounds awesome) like the idea of the removeable baffle, when touring he can put the baffle back in.

Is £6k for an 04 1150GSA with 20k reasonable??

1150 is heavier and 10(?)ish HP down ,
look on 4 sale threads on here to get idea of prices
theres gs as well as gsa models too
you need to have an hour or two reading on here, its all on this site:thumb2

Depends on what extras are attached and general bike condition. I paid less for a kitted out bike with 3k less miles (same year and GSA)... only top box so I got a set of verns... but I was wanted the verns and I felt the bike was a fair price for the money.

I guess it depends how mow much you want and what you are willing to spend.

Does that help?

he,s new, he,s now wonderin wat the hell "verns" are:D

The 1150 is a bit of a clunker like an old 110 landy, the 1200gsa would be a new defender and the entry level 1200gs is like a discovery ''good for the school/shopping run'',6k is too much money,4.5k nearer the mark but in these crunchy times offer 3k and make him cry.

Very different bikes IMO... 1150 is about 85bh, 12 is about 100and the 12 weighs approx 33k less.... I rode the 1150 and the 12 recently and they felt very different. The 12 feels much quicker and much lighter, more than the statistics would suggest.. The 1150 price seems far too high...
I have the 06 1200GS, 17k miles... I paid 6400; with ABS, clear lenses and head protectors, 1 years tax and MOT, full BMWSH and 1 year BMW warranty...

The 1150 was the last of the rock solid builds from BMW, IMO.... The new 1200GS does not feel anywhere near as well built to me... Some 1200 issues....FPC, EWS antenna ring, minor recall issues should have been sorted..

If you buy a 1200GS, get it from a main dealer and get the BMW warranty..

dont think we answered his question,

ok, 1200, newer, lighter, bit more power, but as the weight is less then it feels faster. Could have electrical gremlins, such as fuel pump fault, ring antenna that may not accept the ignition key. Older bikes will prob have had these done under warranty tho.

1150, either gs, or a gsa, the gsa has higher suspension, bigger fuel tank, one pc seat (this usually gets changed for the 2pc tho, comfort thing) gsa quite heavy, usually comes with crash bars, extra spot lights.

IMHO the 1150 gsa is such a good bike and has massive road presence 6 tho is probably right money, but offer less of course.

Are they from a bmw dealer, private or what?

you wont go wrong but do make sure its a pucca gsa not just a gs with some goodies, as then the price is 3 to 4 grand.

As digger06 says, look on here, spend a bit of time and then buy a 1100, there the best:thumb2

Above link is the bike in question, private sale hence no warranty but the seller is a 60 yr old fella and a dr owned it before that so I would assume its well looked after, by his own admission its been for sale for a few mths.

Problem is in N orthern Ireland theres not the choice or competition in sales as you get across the schuck in UK. I have bought 3 cars from UK and all have been puddins (2 crash repairs 1 clocked) so reluctant to travel to UK.

I have had a look on the for sale section most seem around the same price and some are dearer. I have a Mille R to sell :blast having just spent £1k on it i'm a bit upset :blast:blast:blast but hey you do these things!!

Thank you for all the help your detailed replies have also re-assured me that help isn't that far away!!

'O' and in reply to your first question..
Airheads do it for me, I can't be doing with all this complicated electrickery in oilyheads :rob

also in reply to Bryns answer above, buy from a UK tosser, ask any of your Norn Iron compatriots, they nearly all do it :thumb2

thats a tidy bike, and its about right for dealer money.

as long as its got some history, your gona be pleased.

but again as proff says

if you get one from this sits you wont go wrong either:thumb2

Going to offer him £5500 if its clean and well serviced i'll be happy enough, when you add the costs of plane and boat fares plus the fear of it sh*ttin itself on the way home theres not really a big lot in it money ways. I have no intention of selling it in a few mths as such and plan a tour this year so theres added value already.

Wobblybox I have to admit was stolen of a TL1000 forum (shame) Still have no notion what you refer to as a "wobblybox" but it makes me laugh so a cheap gag (even if its only me laughing).

No big hurry to buy a bike 1st priority is to get shot of the Mille and then see whats about, I will of course keep an eye out on the bikes for sale.

Many thanks for the informative replies sirs

Starting to feel like I stole mine at £3400 (top box no panniers and 77k but FDSH)
I would look on Ebay mate, there were a couple on there when I was looking that were in NI... one in Portrush as I recall

You cant go too wrong with an 1150.
Couple of things worth pointing out.
It doesn't look like its got ABS.
For 2004 this would be the nasty servo ABS,so not a problem but you can haggle the price (£800ish option i believe).
It only has the System panniers rather than the desirable BWM alloys.A few bob off there.
At 22K miles its low mileage, but only 2K away from the expensive 24K service.Once again...
