Its an plug for the optional heated panniers, only available in Alaska and Scandinavian countries.
I happen to have a set and they work well when transporting the occasional fish supper from the chip shop to my house.
Not nearly efficient enough to be used for pizza deliveries, although some folk have tried, with dissappointing results.

I think it the diagnostic plug... tuck back under rack and forget about it.

A denso meter monitors o2 levels me thinks.

I hate to see a man tortured so I'll give you the straight answer.

Americans fart a lot.
The only thing you can do to prevent these noxious gases from polluting the Californian fresh air is to fit a charcoal filter to the bike.

This plug is to control the fart-canister, but it's only fitted to American bikes because obviously, an English gentleman doesn't ever fart.

Therefore, you can utterly ignore it, tuck it away back up under the frame rail and forget it exists :thumb2

Don't take any notice of the other posts, its for the Flux Capacitor which when connected will take you to hyper-speed :thumb

Its a secret only known to 1150GS riders. ;)

There's some shite being posted on this thread, poor chap asks a sensible question and gets slated.

Its a connector to plug in the pillions rampant rabbit, saves on AA batteries when riding :D

Well Fanum Nearly Gave an Honest Answer!

The important thing to know red1 is that it was never used or needed on a European bike.

More important to remember is that while the bike igniton is on it is constantly supplied with a +ve 12V supply.
I know this because one day I got stranded because this plug had got moved slightly & the wires rubbed on a frame web & blew a fuse.
Took many hours to trace. This plug, like others of same type such as injectors, are supplied with constant +ve 12v & the Motronic outputs control the functions by switching the -ve on/off.

Cheers ............Grizzly :beerjug:

In that case could it not be used to power something like a fog light (with an inline switch):nenau

If so,.what type of plug connects to it?

It looks like the same sort of connector as the one on top of the air filter box lid. Haven`t got an effing clue what it does, but it looks like that:D

Probably hasn't got the oomph for a set of lights. Might do a GPS or the low side of a relay tho.

Leave It Alone?

Thought about using as a supply as well once I realised it was live with ignition on.
But....
It was fuse 5 that blew I think and as I said it supplies all the Motronic outputs - eg both fuel injectors and the idea of some accessory loading and perhaps dragging down the voltage didn't seem like a good idea. Better I think to leave the Motronic outputs with their dedicated fusd supply?

Cheers.....................Grizzly:beerjug:

You are getting the truth in predictable forum style, it would control the carbon canister vent valve, but as mentioned not fitted on UK spec machines.
