Only just noticed this on my r1150gsa.
What would be the reason for this?

Its where what is called the CAT code plug would have been fitted.
Its used to tell the ECU to use different maps for poor fuels, say in Africa.
What you have is just a link to use a different map

Nothing to worry about

If you want you can do a search for the "Steptoe mod"
