My wife has WhatsApp on her iPhone 6 Plus and following a notification the other day it seems that her version of WhatsApp had expired. She duly tried to update it to the latest version 25.2.82 but was unsuccessful because cause according to another pop up notification her iPhone needed to be up to iOS 15.1 or later. It also said it was possible to download the last compatible version of WhatsApp. The thing is I can’t get any further because if I press the Download option I simply get the same pop up ad infinitum, and if I press the Cancel option I go back to the beginning where it says I need iOS 15.1 or later.

In a nutshell, the problem is getting to what it calls the last compatible version of WhatsApp.

She is now at a dead end, and unable to use WhatsApp any more, apparently her iPhone 6 Plus is up to date on iOS version 12.5.7

Any suggestions, anybody, please? :thumb2

That's a pretty old iPhone (2016?) and can't be upgraded to later versions of iOS (I think they're up to 18.3.1 now?) and so is unfortunately obselete.

So it's either new (incl 2nd hand) phone time or use Whatsapp on a different device (eg laptop, desktop, tablet, etc). This can even be on a web browser on Apple, Microsoft, Android, Linux or anything else that Whatsapp supports.

It wouldn’t load on our old iPhone 7, so I’d have to agree.

WhatsApp are dropping support for older phones in May of this year, including the iPhone 6 Plus.

It could be a case that they have brought this move forward.

It’s probably a good idea for your wife to upgrade to a newer phone

Thank you all, I’ve been telling her to get a newer phone for yonks, she always agrees, yet, here we are…!

No, the reason I asked was that it did tell me to download the latest suitable version (well something like that) but fair enough, she’ll get a younger phone as you all agree.

Thanks again. :beerjug:

if she has been happy with a 10 year old iphone she will probably think a £100 Moto is wonderful!

At least with some older Android phones which are no longer receiving manufacturer updates there is the option of loading a custom ROM such as Lineageos to keep them up to date, although some higher security apps (eg banking or wallet) usually won't then work. I don't think that this is an option for iPhones though.
