Hi All, I have a 89 R100GS, the previous owner had the wheels re-built with new stainless spokes but decided to have the wheels powder coated in black. Anyway the paint is lifting and rims are well past their best. So I have purchased two rims in good condition (this took nearly a year as they seem to be as rare a rocking horse poo).. Anyway my question is I would like to have the rims checked and polished then swap my hubs and shiny stainless spokes onto them. I have looked through the posts regarding wheel re-builds and The Devon Rim Company looks like a good option but I just wondered if the was anyone a bit more local to me, I'm near Fleet, Hants. Thanks Twinshock2

You'll be struggling to find many people who will respoke the crossed spoke wheels.

I think the Devon rim company will be your best bet.

I used "Devon" a few years a go for a full rebuild.
They were good to deal with a did a good job. (I even got them to rebuild wheels with S/s nipples too, which maybe isnt best practice but the wheels are still good/true etc)

hope that helps

once you have them polished upto a descent standard...

you have to stay on top of them.. that involves regular treatment with solvol autosol otherwise they go dull really quick..

and yes that includes polishing the stainless steel spokes too cos they loose it too

it is worth it though!

Hi Guy's
Many thanks for the info / advice and it looks like the Devon Rim Company is the right choice.
I'll be reusing my stainless spokes and nipples so good to know they don’t give any long term trouble.
I agree you do need to keep on top of the wheels, I have tried ACF-50 Anti Corrosion Spray on my Africa Twin (well known for rotting rims) and this works really well..
Thanks Twinshock2
