Come on then wheelie kings, whats the best way to wheelie this Beast. Not that I will of course because its foolish and irresponsible :clap

first gear 3k revs - crack throttle - there you go! OR second gear 2k revs blip clutch smooth as - change ups are shit cos the gearbox isn't up to it, though i have had 3 consecutive clutchless change ups before a false neutral.

I've found the most fun wheelies are ones over crests and bumps - a stunt machine it ain't (unless you're that french fella Goy what's his chops) but fun it is.

Cheers
johnny

Just crack it in first and the front comes up every time. I agree with Johnny, you do have to be pretty good to get the first-second change right. I have been doing so much two-up riding lately that I went for a blast the other weekend by myself and the 12 felt like an R1. The home trip was real hooligan material popping the front up at every chance. :augie Mind you the tank was nearly empty too, so that helps.

I found similar too, with all the luggage on and a near empty tank, the front lifts ever so easily.....:gringo

not that I do you understand, ever

but my prefered method is in second gear (as its smoother and easyier to snatch third) so here goes.
less than Half a tank in the ADV helps by the way.
ride in second at about 30mph, dip the clutch just so its off the biting point and give it some gas about 3-4k then let the clutch back out. With a bit of practice this becomes a smooth single movement and you can power all the way through to 5.5k. now to snatch third try to time it while the bikes on the way up, with a bit of presure under the gear lever just knock the throttle off and back on again in a very quick action whilst timing yer upchange, this should have you now doing a 3rd gear wheelie. carry on like this and an 80mph 5th gear jobbie is easy.
A note to the wise, keep the back brake covered, it will save yer pants and never touch the front brake once the front wheels up as its your only real way of stearing the beast. oh and it will pull to one side but you can counter this with a tug to the opposite side, once up it kinda goes away.
Enjoy, and by the way a 1200ADV with ally boxes and satnav etc looks way cool when wheelieing past a sports bike:D:not that i've ever done such a thing:augie

Better you than me Micky I did cadwell and watched me bike slide up the track gettin' to old :rob for hittin' the deck now and as regards the wheelie brigade don't do it on a 1200 GS cause you might snap the brace. look where the brake goes in to it and exit. Read Ludfooters threads on the site you may understand why.:augie I bought phils bike and it is ok but I do wonder if thats what he may have been doing a bit of. So you can all keep you end up I'll keep mine down. These 12s have enough probs as it is. :DDave

mandatory

i must admit to a certain amount of this behavior,my excuse is after having owned a 1050 speed triple that i thought wheelies were compulsary

Use 2nd gear about 2500 revs back off throttle wind open on spring dip will lift, change to 3rd then 4th, without clutch
will wheelie for a good distance, does not like speeds above 100 mph though

I just roll it on in 3rd and keep it up through to sixth by which time it's sitting just about right at 150mph. According to the wind direction I just hold it there until the Autobahn ends or I run out of petrol.

When I get bored I come back to take the GS for a spin :D

As simple as that?

Can someone confirm is it really as nailing the throttle wide open in whichever gear? You don't have to dump the clutch or anything scary like that?

You might need to turn the traction control off first. :)

My only proper one was a 40mph, 2nd-gear roll-on (on a closed course, Officer) - made sure the bike was settled, snapped open the throttle, and the nose just went up nicely. 60mph indicated, gently rolled back the throttle and dropped back to two wheels as smooth as you like; a 1/4-inch shake of the bars and that was it.

I may have helped my case by having panniers/topbox full of luggage though. :D
