I'm not the type of rider to pull wheelies for fun, so have never tried to do so deliberately, but it's now happened to me accidentally twice. The first was in the early days of owning my first GS, when it reared up while negotiating a mini-island in Brittany, and nearly had me off. Still don't understand to this day how it happened, and thought at the time that maybe the cruise control had resumed.
The second incident was today on my newly run in 1250 as the lights changed at the entrance to a roundabout. I gave it a bit more throttle than usual, though nothing excessive, as I was looking to change lanes ahead of the car on my right but the front came up immediately and I had to back off. It is not as if it just hovered off the ground either - it felt like it lifted a long way, and went back down with a bit of a thud. I thought all the expensive electronics on the bike are supposed to stop this happening, so it came as a bit of a shock. I know the 1250 is a bit of a torque monster, but I was not expecting these sort of shennanagins when asking for a bit more go than usual - and it has left me a bit wary of fast starts in first gear.
Anyone else had the same experience?
