I have a feeling it's the "awkward to get at" one close to the engine oil drain and obscured by the exhaust but confirmation would be great

You do realise it requires a special tool available only at BMW dealers who can resolve the issue for muchodoshi.

I found the same thing, so have ordered the optional oil tank. I will change the oil every 1000 miles. Can anybody recommend an oil to use? I think I need to drill a big hole in the gearbox and insert a rubber feed pipe, but that should be easy enough and then jobs a good 'un

Seems plausible but surely the oil spec for the gearbox would be nearer that of the bevel drive than the engine.

Is it possible to retroactively fit shield in between the engine and gearbox and then use proper gear box oil? I feel BMW have been shoddy on this issue. It's probably just to save money by not using different oiles. They are sneaking in modern Japanese technology. They will be using wet clutches next. Just like a goldwing with 4 missing cylinders. JJH

In that case,all GL1000, GL1100 ,and GL1200 Goldwings would have no cylinders.
