Where is the ECU?

Haven´t fiddled about much with my 1200 yet, have had it shop serviced for warranty reasons. Planning to remove the ECU tomorrow, sending it with a friendto http://bbpower.de in Bonn for a remap. (Would have preferred a visit to Hilltop, but not practical. So will have to settle for what is hopefully an 80% solution. Price is €250, btw.)

But please save me from some needless work; where is the friggin´thing? Behind the tank, or under it? I.e., do I have to remove the tank? Been looking around for pics and drawings, but all I can find is the ECU itself. Any pointers from resident wrenching gurus would be appreciated. :bow

Oh, btw: It is an ´09 regular GS.

Whilst I was taking my bike apart looking for a bolt I dropped :blast it got as far as loosening the tank and lifting it about 6".

I believe the ecu is located under the tank, fairly central and towards ya knackers end of the tank.

I've got a 2008 ADV but I'm assuming that makes no odds. From what I remember you should be able to get to it without full tank removal.

However I'm not 100% certain. Good luck

Under the tank in front of the abs unit, or if you haven't got abs it's in front of where the abs unit would be if you had it. :D

S'ok, it's not a biggie.
Once you've had the tank off, you won't think twice next time.

Yo´re right, it was easier than I feared. The worst part was sucking the petrol out of the full tank first, haven´t done that in 30+ years. Had forgotten how foul petrol tastes. Maybe I should do a quick write-up, to calm the next guy's nerves?

Found a large, flat metal electronic box thingie on top of the ECU. Anyone know what that is? Aluminum under, covered in plastic on top. On top of this again is an unused connector, and something is supposed to attach there. What could this something be? I already have ABS, ACS, ESA, and every other TLA known to mankind.
